CT cops handing out ticket like candy. have you ever driven along the interstate at night...you see a cop every 2 min. once you cross the state line to RI or MA, you don't see any cops at all. do you really want to go to a state where all the cops are just waiting for any chance they get to bust you?

Unfortunately that's all he's remembered for is his addictions which he chose over a basketball career. Years later he still hasn't changed, and it's the big bad cop who's to blame? I don't get it mate...

Also with the United States' severe police shortage I'd rather have CT's problem as opposed to most places where you can't get an officer to respond for several hours due to being spread so thin....

I don't think Connecticut is likely any worse than other states as far as speeding tickets, etc. All NE states will hand out extra tickets in the summer because they know most people are there on trips/vacations and won't contest them.

In this case, be sure the police presence is heavy near the casinos to stop this type of behavior. They probably nail multiple people each day on DUI charges. Baker has lots of problems, so I won't blame the cops on this one.

i had a few bouts with dui many years ago
and personally i want as many cops as possible out there busting drunk drivers, speeders and reckless drivers

a lady that works with my brothers wife in ma got ran off the road actually ran into from behind and got killed by some f'er in a hurry in a suv
they still didnt get him

I live in a beach tourist town, and I find that most cops will go out of their way to cut the tourists some slack. Ive also found during the winters, the locals seem to catch more crap, do to bored cops.

As far as the guy driving intoxicated, he needs to be off the road.

CT isn't that bad for speedtraps, limit is 65 on the highway, traffic often moves along at 75+, if you go 70 or so, and there is somebody ahead going 75, then you are fine. Route 9 is crawling with cops, but people go 80+, keep it to 75, you're OK,there.

RI is much worse.

We don't know how Baker was driving.

Baker is a local minor celebrity, he doesn't live that far from the casino, and owns a nearby restaurant, if anything they would likely try to cut the guy a break, if possible. It's not like he's a tourist.

It's just a disgrace how people's civil liberties are being stripped away one by one. Now you can't even get tanked at the casino and drive yourself home. Next thing you know we won't be able to walk around naked in a mall while carrying a machine gun.

Don't the police have anything better to do like find Obama?

In CT, those 65 mph limits go to 55 without warning and the cops sit there and pick people off. CT has one of the highest fine schedules in the country. They specifically target out-of-state vehicles to minimize contested tickets. 50% of citations issued are to non-CT residents. What % of miles traveled are non-CT? Maybe 25%? It's pure theft, brilliantly engineered.

You virtually never see anyone pulled over in RI. I'll bet a big number that speeding ticket revenue per capita is at least 50% higher in CT.

in MA, i see cop on side of the freeways all the time, but they were either helping stranded motorists or aiding a construction site. night and day when you compare ma cops to ct cops

It is theft. A story in one of the papers in Connecticut detailed your numbers. One of the highest ticket areas was the border area between Connecticut and Massachusetts, used primarily by vacationers. They get ticketed and won't travel back to contest it.

Ex-NBA star Vin Baker charged with DWI

NORWICH, Conn. (AP) -- Former NBA All-Star Vin Baker, whose 14-year career was marred by bouts of depression and alcoholism, was charged early Tuesday with drunken driving after leaving a casino.

The 35-year-old Baker was spotted driving erratically after leaving Foxwoods Resort Casino, according to a state police report. He failed a sobriety test and was charged with driving while impaired.

State police spokesman Lt. J. Paul Vance described Baker's demeanor as cooperative.

Baker's agent, Charles Grantham, said he hasn't talked to his client and declined comment.

A four-time All-Star forward who attended the University of Hartford, Baker averaged 15.0 points and 7.4 rebounds in the NBA.

The 6-foot-11 forward was a member of the gold medal-winning Olympic team in 2000 and enjoyed his best seasons with Milwaukee and Seattle.

Baker's alcoholism forced the Boston Celtics to cut him midway through the 2003-04 season. He later admitted drinking in his hotel room after playing poorly and showing up to practice with alcohol on his breath.

He also played for New York, Houston and the Los Angeles Clippers before being released by Minnesota six games into the 2006-07 season.

Baker was released on $500 bond and was due in court June 26.

I've never got a ticket in CT ( have CT plates) used to often go 80.

Off the highway the local cops can certainly set traps, but the staties aren't bad,IMO.

The fine is lowish, so I guess out of state is a good target.
