    Hoops capping question
I have my own answer but wondering if there is general agreement.

Suppose you have two teams that are exactly equal playing each other. Same record, same points for/against, same strength of schedule played.

You get the picture - exactly equal teams.

How much is the home team favored by? Both pro and college.

Using any sort of average (3-4 points for NBA btw) will land you in trouble.
You need to look at the teams involved and their respective home/away records.

I used to use 3 for HCA. However since I've been keeping better stats, (in all sports and not just football where I started), I have found some teams have no advantage at home and some have huge advantages. Without knowing more you can't say, but it could be anywhere from 0 to 7 for NBA. In football especially college I have found teams that play far better on the road and their home field advantage is actually negative. Personally I believe detroit has no home field advantage either.
