Who is your favourite dead athlete? (NHL/NBA/NFL)
While any favourite dead athlete will do I'd prefer hearing about famous athletes that died tragically, not by natural 'causes.

(If you are posting about a black dead athlete then getting shot may be considered "natural 'cause")

    My fav is:
    Dan Snyder

On September 29, 2003, Snyder was critically injured after the Ferrari 360 Modena being driven by his friend and teammate Dany Heatley struck a wall along Atlanta's Lenox Road. Both players were ejected from the car, which was split in half by the force of the impact. Snyder suffered a fractured skull and internal brain injuries due to the rapid acceleration/deceleration incident. He died six days later on October 5 as a result of his injuries complicated by a subsequently-acquired infection.

Heatley was charged with vehicular homicide as a result of the crash. He pleaded guilty to second-degree vehicular homicide, driving too fast for conditions, failure to maintain a lane, and speeding. He was sentenced to three years probation and ordered to give 150 speeches on the dangers of speeding for his crime.[1]

After Snyder's death, the Ontario Hockey League renamed their Humanitarian of the Year trophy in his honour. It became the Dan Snyder Memorial Trophy.
During the 2006–07 NHL season Dan's parents, Graham and Lu Ann Snyder, travelled across North America in an RV attending NHL games and speaking at engagements to raise awareness for the Dan Snyder Memorial Foundation. In 2003, Canadian band The Tragically Hip recorded a song called "Heaven Is a Better Place Today" in honour of Dan Snyder. The song appears on their In Between Evolution album.

In 2009, an arena will be opened in Snyder's hometown Elmira, called the Dan Snyder Memorial Arena, and it was opened for the 2009-2010 season of the hometown minors team, the Elmira Sugar Kings.[2]

Gotta be Thurman Munson here. Huge Yankees fan and that day when his plane went down will forever be a sad one.

Clemente one the greatest pirates to ever play, hof right fielder with 5 legit tools... had recently visited mangaua, nicaragua during a baseball off-season, he loved the people there. a short time later the city was devasted by an earthquake...clemente moved by the situation sent airplanes filled with food and aid packages to the city.

the corrupt government's diverted the charity packages and it never reached the people 3 separate occasions. so on new year's eve 1972 he sent another plane with aid packages, but this time he went along to ensure it got there. the plane was overloaded by 5,000 pounds and went down in Puerto Rico (clemente's home)

Pelle Lindbergh- as a life long flyers fan his death was the most devastating thing that ever happened at the time. I thought he was goign to be the next greatest goalie ever. The flyers have never recovered from the loss of this guy and the position he played.

I remember him well, too bad really - I'm not glad the poor kid had to die but the only team I've hated more than the Canadiens were the Flyers when Bobby Clarke (classless piece of shit he is) had anything to do with the franchise.

Since Clarke (classless piece of shit he is) no longer is their GM I don't hate them any more (or any less).

Ditto. I still have my Thurman Munson bat from way back when they had decent giveaways at ballparks.

I loved Clarkie when he played. As a GM his legacy of arrogance and idiocy and unwilling to adapt is so annoying.

Those are great listings. A few I'd like to add:

                                      Swede Savage (IndyCar)

                                      Francois Cevert (F1)

                                      Peter Revson (F1)

                                      Ronnie Peterson (F1)

So many more to mention, but these were my best of the best.
