Now my PM is shut off. All I asked a few guys was pointers for a programmer to build a sports betting model. I thought these forums were for gamblers to help each other improve. The idiot willie bee accused wrecktangle(i also asked him advice) because he said he asked me for money...........but the idiot willie bee can't read....................I forwarded him an email(same one i forwarded you) except the one I forwared you I took out the programmers pricing(after I saw i didnt in other PM to wrecktangle) and the moron Willie be thought that was wrecktangle asking me for money. Mods get into over moderating, they find it is hard to stop. Because now a question comes up, "does this tread need moderating". Looks like the natives are restless in it.
Willie saw fit to moderate a post the other day too, when a guy questioned the source of bowl picks. Like WTF? Why bother? Donno what all this over moderation is accomplishing.
The best statement on how to moderate I have ever seen was one written in 1992 about moderating a newsgroup, back when the internutty was young. Essentially it views a moderators duty as moderating through negotiaion to the standards of the community.
NOT to Nazi your way to "stifling/narrowing" to a "chilling" effect.....They are successful moderators because they continue to negotiate their roles with the community they serve. That's the single most important characteristic of a moderator. Consultation with the list at least mitigates the stifling/narrowing effect I fear moderation can create. A bad moderator would be someone who established roles and guidelines without consultation or who enforced those rules too strictly, which would have a chilling effect on the community.
