That is a pretty good line. Just keep it short and avoid rambling, worst is when some dude's speech is longer than the Maid of Honor's (or last few weddings I've been to its all bridesmaids wtf is that?!?). Remember to thank the parents as they are paying for the thing, presumably.

Yeah I did the Best Man thing over the summer. Made a speech and he also wanted me to perform a few songs. I made sure I was well prepared and it ended up being one of those things I will feel pretty proud about for the rest of my life.

So that's my suggestion. Prepare. If you like the heavy drinking, maybe don't get started in earnest until post-speech.

I am honestly not that worried about the speech. I don't mind public speaking and I know both the bride and groom so well that I have a couple of good jokes up my sleeve.

Most religious churches don't allow you to marry around Christmas. It could have been better if the wedding was after New Years.

Maybe for them it is tax efficient to marry in '09 as Dec. 31 is the deadline to marry and be able to joint file. Could be several thousands in savings here. I've been to a Dec. 31 wedding before.

Not really something they have to worry about. They planned this almost a year ago. I guess she just always wanted to get married in Chicago (where she grew up) while it was chirstmas time and all the decorations were up....

Tell the pending groom to first have his bride to be check out mentally. Anyone wanting to get married in Chicago during the winter has to have a screw loose. I guess she's planning on having a white wedding dress tie dyed with yellow and brown snow too. Make sure he gets a prenup.
