Tiger Woods named Athlete of the Decade

Woods was selected Wednesday as the Athlete of the Decade by members of The Associated Press in a vote that was more about 10 years of performance than nearly three weeks of salacious headlines.
Just like so many of his victories, it wasn't much of a contest.
Woods received 56 of the 142 votes cast by AP member editors since last month. More than half of the ballots were returned after the Nov. 27 car accident outside his Florida home that set off sensational tales of infidelity.
Lance Armstrong, a cancer survivor who won the Tour de France six times this decade, finished second with 33 votes. He was followed by Roger Federer, who won more Grand Slam singles titles than any other man, with 25 votes.
Record-setting Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps came in fourth with 13 votes, followed by New England quarterback Tom Brady (6) and sprinter Usain Bolt (4). Five other athletes received one vote apiece.

    Also named:

    Adulterer of the Decade
    Worst Driver of the Decade
Worst Beating from a Female of the Decade

I am going to have to disagree with you pavy.

Have you ever played golf and if yes, how many times?

I play golf regurarly. I can't break a sweat unless it's 95 degrees. I get a good workout when I play basketball or soccer. I actually need a break after playing these two sports and I'm sore the next day. With golf I just don't get anything hurting.

Good for him, he dominated his sport much more than anyone else did at theirs.

Really, the decade still has a year left? So then 2020 will be the final year of the 2010's?

Hate to sound like Lou, but Federer deserves to be in this discussion. The past year has probably hurt his credentials.

I agree on this ... I believe Federer deserved a better spot ... even #1

Exactly, the first year was 1. The year 0 never existed. So the first decade was 1-10 and every decade ends with 0.

So 300 BC is actually 301 BC because a year was skipped when we went from 1 BC to 1 AD.

Peyton Manning should be mentioned since he lead a team to more NFL decade wins than any other team in NFL history.

Jimmy Johnson should be mentioned. He won 4 NASCAR championships in a row and was in the top 3 the rest of the decade. If golfers are athletes then race car drivers are athletes too.

Also Michael Schumacher dominated Formula One like no one else this decade. He was impossible to beat.

Also Valentino Rossi in MotoGP. 7 championships, 1 second, 1 third in this decade.

Didn't a 60 year old just miss winning the British Open last year? What other sport do 60 year olds contend for titles? No, Kurt Warner and Brett favre are not 60.
