I have had no issues with Vista. I am also running on a laptop and the drop-down menus as well as Bookmaker work fine for me. Run an update? Reinstall? No idea. BOL.

I've never used Vista, but with my limited computer knowledge, that should not be an issue.

Are you using Internet Explorer to access the internet? What version were you using that worked? What version are you using now?

Go to the help button on the toolbar up top and select "about". I am using Exlorer 7 and have no issues. You could always try another browser like firefox or chrome too.

HM bring up a good point, much more likely to be your browser than the OS. Personally I haven't used IE in years, its really not a very good web browser. I use Firefox and rarely if ever have issues with it, have heard good things about Chrome as well.

IE sucks. I have Vista and had problems with IE, but I quit using it almost immediately and switched to Chrome. Haven't had any issues since.

The netscape download is also free.

I had Vista on my laptop, but I blew it away and installed Debian Linux. The Debian Linux download is also free. Don't bother with Ubuntu Linux, which is popular now, but not as stable.

Vista was pre-loaded on my laptop when I bought it. That's the only reason that I had it. It amazes me that people would pay Bill Gates $100 for Vista and IE, when the stuff you can download for free works better.

If you have an XP CD:

Reformatting your hard disk will remove Vista, so it will not be able to block your installation of XP. There is no guarantee that you will be able to install XP. If there is hardware that XP doesn't recognize, it will abort.

                      1) Backup your data.

                      2) Burn a "rescue CD" of Vista, just in case the XP install fails or you change your mind and want Vista back.

                      3) Download the Debian Linux install CD image, then burn it to a CD.

                      4) If there are any DVDs that you want to burn on this PC, do it now or forever hold your peace. For now, Linux will burn CDs, but it won't burn DVDs.

                      5) Kiss all of your windows software good-bye (games, autoCAD, etc.).

                      6) Reformat your hard disk.

                      7) Install XP

If your XP install fails, you will have to

                      1. "Rescue" Vista with your rescue CD. If that fails, you will have to return your PC to the place where you bought it and pay them to re-install Vista. (which I assume would be cheaper than buying a new copy of Vista and doing the install yourself)

                      or

                      2. Buy windows 7

                      or

                      3. Install Linux from the CD you burned in step 2. Not only is Linux free, but just about anything that you could want to run on it is free. No more paying $100 for a spreadsheet, $100 for a database, $100 for a programming language, etc. I would not recommend downloading all this over a dial-up connection - it's a lot of stuff.
