#2For those who aren't familar with action points, from WSEX:
An Action Point wager allows a player to place a bet on how many points his/her selected team will beat the spread by up to a set cap. You can choose your own cap between 1 and 15 points on Pro-Football games. You choose how much you wish to bet per action point. When you place an action point wager, no money is deducted from your account, but your maximum loss potential is restricted from your account until the game is final.
You win the dollar amount wagered for each point the team covers by up to the selected cap. You lose 1.1 x (dollar amount wagered) for each point your team does not cover by up to the selected cap.
Here is a typical payoff chart:
Team A is -7.
You choose a cap of 10 points.
Wager amount is 10 dollars per point.
The amount restricted is 110 dollars. Team A Wins By 1 2 3 4 5 6
You Win/Lose -66 -55 -44 -33 -22 -11
Team A Wins By 7 8 9 10 11 12
You Win/Lose 0 +10 +20 +30 +40 +50
As you can see above, Team A winning by 17, you still only win $100 because of your cap, and below, Team A losing by 3, you still only lose $110.
-------------------------
Sort of like teasers. Some points are worth more than others. Lot of guys play these will really low caps in order to give up numbers like 2,1,pk which are less frequent, but make money on 3, 4 which are more likely. I bet them a lot two years ago, but in the end, I found that shopping and reduced juice on regular bets was a better use of my time.
Lot of guys play them for fun with big caps when they expect a blowout, I have never been able to find plays that did better that way, but the cool thing is even if you are winning or losing, every score still counts for or against you until the very end, even if the pointspread itself isn't in question. The ultimate bet for an action junky.
WSEX offers them online. 5Dimes and Olympic offer them over the phone fwiw.Comment -

#3I love them actually, the most you can do online is at 5dimes I believe, $250 a point for 20 points. The rest usually cap it over the internet to 10 or 15 points. I know way back when WWTS said they'd allow me to have larger limits/cap of points, but that I had to use that same amount and point cap for EVERY action points wager I made and I didn't like that. Used to do it all the time in NY where it was called "lightning" with my local over there.Comment -

#5My understanding at WWTS was I could have a cap of 50 if I wanted, but it would have to bet at 50 EVERY single time I placed an action points wager. I have to call into CRIS to place action points wagers, at 5dimes, you can do it from the internet and do action points on team totals if I remember correctly.Comment -

#6Owned,
You may want to check out Olympic. I looked at the different options a few months back for a player who emailed and Oly had the best options for action points bettors.Comment -

#10this is from cris website on there action points type wagers:
Action Points
Action Points are available for football and basketball. Action Points are for the bettor who not only can predict which team will win the game, but by how many points. Your action point wager is capped from 1 point to a maximum of 10 points, and the wager you risk cannot exceed your available balance. On this type of wager, you risk $110 for every $100 wagered.
Example:
Atlanta Hawks 191
Houston Rockets -5
• Suppose you wager $100 a point on the Houston Rockets and ask for a cap of 10 points. Houston must win by at least 5 points, and for every point over the point spread of 5 that they win by, you win $100. You have the chance of winning between $100 and $1,000.
• If Houston wins by 9 points, your net winnings would be $400. On the other hand, if Houston fails to cover the point spread, you risk $110 for every point that they fall short of the 5-point spread. You can also use totals either over or under, or the underdog in the game, getting 5 points.
• Action Points can only be played on a point spread, i.e. a team to win a game.
