Point for just making it to OT is the dumbest thing in sports.

Switch OT to 3 on 3, sudden death, no time limit. Having a shootout would be like NFL OT being a FG kicking contest.

There's nothing wrong with a friggin' tie. If the two teams were even, it's a tie.

Shootouts detract from the game. Save that stuff for All Star weekend.

The shootout is for the fans, the same way they change the mound in baseball to make for more homeruns.

I think it should be each team gets a point if it's tied after regulation, and then five minutes of OT are played. If neither team scores, it ends in a tie, with a point apiece.

You probably wouldn't have that many ties because teams wouldn't want that potential point to disappear, so they'd be aggressive in OT.

But whatever it is, I think the game should end after 65 minutes, max. No bogus skills competitions at the end. Shootouts are not really the essence of hockey and are a poor way of determining the better team on that night.
