Good question. Because better handicapping leads to better scalping, middling, and whoring. Books give away a lot of free money, especially if you're willing to lose there. Give them what they want. Keep the sharp action for exchanges and pro books. Bad handicapping is beating a generous recreational book.

Dark horse hit the nail on the head. Plus you can hit the occassional weak line at the Rec book. Unfortunately it's not always easy to say I'm going to lose there but maybe at best I'm going to try and not win there....

I guess what I'm saying is many here should be scapling/whoring/middling much more then they do know.

Have to start doing this more instead of betting coin flips. Scalp or bet my leans.

This topic has been covered NUMEROUS times here. Generally, scalping or middling is a BAD practice. Unless both wagers are +EV (which 90% of the time is not the case), scalping or middling REDUCES your expected growth. Do not listen to Fishhead, he's stuck in a pre-UIGEA mentality and has not adapted to the times.

Serious people in the sports market tend to watch lines anyways and middles/scalps just happen on a day to day basis in a very casual manner. I will say this, if people in general first learned how to spot inefficiencies (in particular profitable middles and scalps) before they started trying to handicap and find value in lines, they'd be doing themselves a great favor in the long run and would save themselves hoards of money just from picking up on some very basic concepts. Perhaps it's a good thing though the way things are. A more inefficient market is always the best kind of market.

Most don't have the patience for scalping/middling/whoring, but a long-term low/no-risk is the way to grind if you can.

The easiest way to make $ is to get bonuses at books and scalp it at Matchbook. Takes patience and you have to be very quick, but that's how you clear rollover bonus requirements and make $. Much easier to make $ this way than capping. But it's not really "gambling" and its boring for most.
