There's worse things you could be doing than placing bets. Not that betting sports or dogs or poker is ultimately good for society or yourself. Besides, there's a soccer game at 3 am in Singapore. I think Hyundai is playing some other team.
How may of you think you have a gambling disease?

#37Originally posted by minet123But being selfish is not a disease.I think everyone should do a 4th,5th and 6th step and by the time you have that awakening you will stay or move on. Justifying sleazy behavior because your a selfish prick is just as wrong. Its about honesty, you can find a power greater than your self anywhere. Here for example when your making picks but hiding behind the "disease" BS to justify what you have done in life is wrong

Finding God is the ultimate gamble, Brock.
Do you spend your entire life as a boring lump, barring yourself from all things in life that are any fun (sex, drugs, rock & roll) to sit in a church and listen to some fraud feed you a pile of horseshit, just to find out that when you close your eyes for the final time, it's just as it was before you were born?
That's one helluva gamble. I'll stick to losing my money on the field. Fukk that noise.

#39boys I just got back from the casino after about a 6 hour binge...I lost $200 but strung it out over a good amount of time...still pathetic. Its a ****ing Wednesday morning. At least I'm not addicted to crack or some shit. I fed my urge, however at around 4ish pm tomorrow the crave will comeback as it always does and I'll make myself believe I have some lock of the day and if I don't bet that lock I will be costing myself money. Eh what are you going do...I will just tip my hat and call gambling my daddy.Comment -

#41Originally posted by punterfriendGuys, I don't see the problem, at least for me, It is a hobby, something to do after a work day, I also have fantasy's or dreams of waking about 10:00 AM every day and gambling for a living, But I realize that may never happen, still I dream. You take away a mans dreams that is when he gets really depressed, that is why we manage our money so we can live to fight (gamble) another day. You must keep things in the right order, God , Family, Work, home. All us deep down know this, and Bread you are probally young, I used to have some of the same feelings you do about God and Church and Religion and Priests and Pastors, Rabbis. When you get older you see things better. Also your body will begin to tell you that sex drugs and rock-and-roll well just isn't what they used to be, and hang overs hurt alot more than they use to. And that is no Shite. As far as religion I have found one of the most wonderful person I will ever know, He is my priest. A smart, educated, funny man who hasn't a hippocritical bone in his body and never have I seen him judge anyone. My point is their are good people in religion they are not at all as Bread percieves them. I'm not knocking Bread I understand where he is coming from, I feel he will change his point of view as he gets older. After saying that, you guys have a GOOD ****ING DAY. Once a priest asked General Patton if he read his Bible. The Generals reply was yes, every G.D. day. GODSPEED, AND MAKE SOME DOOOOOOOOUGH!Comment -

#43Bread, What do you consider not being a young guy, under 30, under 35, under 40, 45. Where do you fit in? You know not all religions are so hard on drinking, Gambling, and maybe even a little smoke, if you know what I mean. Its not neccessarilly what you consume,
BUT WHAT CONSUMES YOU. At our parish, the older folks go on a bus trip ever so often to gamble in Biloxi, Mississippi. Personally I don't go myself, can't handle the old people smell. lol

You should start your own religion with my other friends here, Paco and Pimike. They are also pretty strong in their religious beliefs, but also take full advantage of the forgiveness loophole. Funny stuff man.

#45Finally on tv someone has nailed the myth about stuff like alcoholism and gambling not being a disease.Anyone ever see the ad to quit drinking where the guy that runs the place says,we don't believe in the disease concept.Yea!Bravo! What a crutch it is for people to say it's a disease when you are compulsive at something.Where did you catch the disease?I was out raking leaves or shoveling snow and damnit if that gambling spore blowing in the wind didn't infect me.I was normal before I went outside and when I went back inside I got online and went nuts blowing my nest egg on gambling.Every once in awhile someone who got burnt at a compulsion tells it like it is.They say that it was their fault that they went too far with something where it ruined or affected their life and that they would still love to do a thing but they know they can't because it would ruin their life. It's not that Jeckel and Hyde crap where they didn't know when they were going to have their body and brain taken over by some mystery illness compulsion.
No question about it though, compulsions fill a void in peoples lives. It's a tough world to succeed in on many different fronts and when a person gives it their best shot and spins his wheels or always goes backwards no matter how hard you try ,you look for instant gratification to fill the voids. The government is the cause of alot of this stuff making things misserable for people so they are attracted to vices. The more things suck in life that are out of your control, the more you retreat to the safety of being entertained and nurtured by the comfort of your vices. The more crap that invades your life everyday, the more you lust after some vice you enjoy as your reward.
The laugh of all time are these preachy public service announcements in the media that the government uses to scold you for having vices and bad habits. They are the ones instituting bad policies to make your life hell where you feel the need to smoke more, drink more, use drugs and eat more to lessen the blow of the hell hole they created for you to live in.
Then you have the government bailing out the risk takers that lost with your money!!!If you get in a jam the government doesn't bail you out for gambling and risk taking.
Then what about the mind and mood altering depression drugs they put you on like prozac and ridilin? All they are doing is masking your pain and depression. You have damn good reason to be depressed over alot of things these days that was caused by the government F ing up!Cure the damn problems, don't have some government agency shove pills down your throat to numb you so you think there are no longer any problems.
Same goes for video games where kids lose themselves in a virtual world. The government is always bitching about that too where kids are ont he couch eating chips and playing video games. The god damn virtual world can be controled by a kid where as the hell hole they live in created by the government can't be controled. Can you blame a kid for being a shut in these days where you want some predictability where you are the master of your domain.Comment -

#46is it that we can't control it or that we dont cuz we fukkin love it. i gotta really think about it to try to fathom how someone can gain knowledge of a gift line and have no desire to play it or how some people dont know and dont care what it feels like to flop the nuts and slowplay it. its a rush and it can be profitable if done properly and responsibly.....i think maybe its unhealthy to categorize it as a disease even tho i suppose in the same way alcoholism is commonly considered one, it makes sense. gotta do some soul searching if your kid doesnt have diapers or if youre eating out old ladies for the equivalent of bet jamaicas minimum deposit.Comment -

#48We've been through this at my other site several times over the years. I still stand by my original thoughts on the matter. Gambling while it can be controled and remain a recreational hobby for some and an actual money investment opportunity for some is an addiction for most. It's not a desease. Cancer is a desease. Gambling is a craving that becomes an addiction.Comment -

#52Religion is a disease, I guess some could be, But to say all religion is a sick addiction is a norrow minded, uneducated, ignorant thing to say. I' didn't join this forum to talk about religion, but some things need not be brought up in this enviornment. That is all I'm going to contribute in this forum about God or Religion.
