3 major changes in Vegas today...
    1. City Center opens in its first phase today, with the introduction of the Vdara non-gaming, all-suite condo/hotel.

    2. Binion's closes its hotel due to the economic conditions here. Plummeting room rates and occupancy forces them to close the Binion's Coffee Shop and hotel portion of their operation, cutting 100 jobs. The casino, steakhouse, and cafes will remain open.

    3. Harrah's filed an application with the Gaming Control Board to acquire Planet Hollywood. When approved, they will control everything on the east side of the strip between Casino Royale and MGM. It also likely takes away a sportsbook out as PH was one of the few independent books remaining in town.

Got a offer in the mail for January from there, 3 free nights and $200 in food. Might have to check it out

Matty Rain will be sad about the Binions news....that was his favorite place when he was in Vegas.

Hope they can keep the rest of the property open. Their steakhouse was a huge surprise when I went this summer - had an amazing filet mignon on their tab.

I'm not sure (and I don't even think MGM is yet) as to when the Veer towers or the Harmon Hotel are due to be completed/opened...

Definitely. The steakhouse is excellent. I'd be lost downtown without their snack bars too. Plus they have some of the best poker tournaments in town. Solid structures and turnouts.

I won't trust any of this information until it is confirmed by Fishhead who is close personal friends with both Ace Rothstein and Robert Deniro who portrayed him in Casino.

what is happening with the old stardust site? I believe work was halted on that and remains that way. What was it called, Echelon place?

Yeah. Construction on Echelon is still halted, Brock. Economic conditions here continue to worsen. We won't be seeing the completion of Echelon for years - if we ever do...

Can't remember the name of the place we ate at...but it definitely was pretty good especially for the price.

Rumor has it he was parked right next to Ace when they blew up his car and came away without a scratch.

Think CityCenter was partly financed by that Dubai company having so much trouble wonder if that will affect City Center at all.

That really blows about PH. That is my favorite casino. I guess I need to find a new hangout, if what you posted is true.

Yeah. Dubai World. They own the M Resort too. They are facing liquidation of some of their properties. Their two Las Vegas interests aren't thought to be in any danger of this, however.

Agreed. Harrah's knows how to turn something good into vanilla crap too. Hate to see that happen to PH. I really hate to see the book go to Harrah's more though...

Not exactly, they are proposing a 6-month moratorium on paying interest. I sincerely doubt bondholders would prefer near-unsellable CRE in this environment over cold hard cash in 180 days. They would deal the trophy properties but only at the right price.
