    Fat Charlie finally gone
How do you have that line-up with that schedule and go 6-6? What a joke.

. Very good point. He suckered ND into giving him that extension after a close loss LOL. This fat bastard doesn't have a signature win in 6 years, just 1 tight game against an over hyped team on a field that had grass a foot long.

Don't recall which talking head made the point last night on ESPN (around 9 p.m. ET), but I did find it to be an interesting angle. The studio dude was talking about how ND no longer has the national edge they used to with recruiting when they hogged the TV broadcasts with its games. Hell, the Iowa Hawkeyes got as much TV exposure this season as the Irish. You've got games on ESPN, FOX affiliates, etc, damn near each night of the week, much different than just 8-10 years ago and certainly far different than the way things were 20, 30, 40 years ago and more.

I'm not so sure that Notre Dame really has the talent that everyone assumes they still get year in, year out. You've got kids going to one of 120+ schools on the map because just about EVERYONE is on TV at some point in the season. The best athletes in Florida are staying home the last 25 years to play for the Gators, Canes and Noles. Texas Tech and TCU are 'stealing' kids here in the Lone Star State that might have gone to Texas or ND not that long ago. It's happening all over the country and the Irish simply do not have the national appeal they once did.

ND would be better served right now to go ahead and conference up, either the Big Ten or Big East, get some payola for the move and then try and dig in for regional recruiting.

Supposedly has mlultiple calls from pro teams to be their offensive coordinator. He will get paid by Notre Dame while also back working in the NFL. Good deal for Weiss.

He should take a year off and do a gastric bypass (knee too) and get into better shape then go back into the NFL

I totaly agree with Willie. Notre Dame is not a legitimate national contender, nor have they been for years now. They have set a futility record for the most consecutive bowl losses. They have lost more games in the past 3 years than they have won. They have lost 8 straight to arch rival USC. Their campus is in an isolated area in a very cold state during the winter. Their academics are very hard. Not many kids want to fight all of that just to say that they play for Notre Dame. Lindy's had Notre Dame's 2009 recruiting class at #21, and that incluced Te'o. That is certainly not the type of class to build a national power out of.

Willie, SBJ did a great job at evaluating the financial health of the current 1-A programs. Notre Dame has absolutely no need to join a conference.

                              None.

Especially financial. ND brings in 13 million per annum from NBC---in a deal signed through 2015. They also get another 8 million from ISP sports in their radio deal. That doesn't include ticket sales and merchandise sales which generates more than any other program.

If ND joined the Big East----that tv money and radio suddenly becomes shared revenue---if ND joined the Big East---they would actually lose money. If they joined the Big 10---they would also lose money.

If you add in a ND BCS bowl appearance once every 4 years----the money generated would exceed any current conference affiliation for them.

In other words Martin we are going to be forced to not watch the shitty teams playing on NBC for another 6 years because there is no incentive from ND to make the team better.

                                  Pavy. Exactly.

                                  Sad isn't it?

And ND is watering down their schedule considerably.

Next year, NBC will be bringing you the Broncoes of Western Michigan against ND----good stuff there, huh?

John Clayton of ESPN said this morning as many as 6 teams have already been in touch with him.

Don't forgettheir other notable games that will be televised on NBC, such as Purdue, Stanford (minus Gerhart), Tulsa and Utah. A star stuuded lineup. Well, there is always the Michigan game. Oh yea, Michigan is not a bowl team, are they?
