I have a very good long-time friend who is female so I may have some insight into this.

My female friend definitely likes gabbing. She talks to her girlfriends on the phone and they regularly get together to watch Survivor, The Amazing Race, American/Canadian Idol and that sort of thing.

It so happens that, like me, she is a recovering alcoholic so she goes to regular meetings and that leads to more gabbing. And she has sponsees and that leads to a certain amount of gabbing too.

She is always doing needlecrafts which she usually does while watching TV. She does like Oprah but she also likes to tape batches of old movies from TCM and watch those (or at least have them on in the background while she's crafting away).

She likes doing sudokus. She reads some. New age self-help stuff and some chicky novels like Maeve Binchy and The Other Boleyn Girl.

She hates shopping. She does do a lot of cleaning (at least compared to me) but she does not like it.

As for gambling, I'm afraid she used to have a problem with that - so that leads her to GA - and more gabbing.
