Can anyone on here not say that in the last 6 months that it is just so much easier to just get a credit with the local. Assuming of course that you have delt with him, or someone who knows him. Especially if you can't run down to the western union / moneygram after work? Non U.S. f course. These locals all have websites now anyways. Get paid on Mondays or Tues. See no downside unless you bet what you dont have.

#2Theres good and bad locals just like theres good and bad offshore books. You could be playing with a small timer locally and end up getting stiffed, just like you could going offshore.
Finding good locals nowadays is not an easy task, because they just don't take everyone that wants to bet game with them. I don't know how it is everywhere else, but around here you need to know somebody that will vague for you, and even then your put on a low limit to start off.
That downside you mention is always a bad thing. Most of the locals I deal with will usually work with you if need be, but your cut off till the debt is paid in full. However if you miss "one" payment then you have one extremely bad problem on your hands, because they might send cops out to collect. A lot of the small timers will cut a deal with the player, and continue to take there action if there real degenerate losers. Of course theres always problems somewhere along the lines when you do that, but then again your dealing with a "D-" type local too.
BTW, Everyone usually gets paid on either Wednesdays or Thursdays around here pending who your dealing with, and payoffs are every Tuesday.Comment -

#3Locals are the way to go IMO especially if you betting against the home team. Square up day is Tue, and you can get paid anytime. With locals defiantly bet what you can lose. I just have money in a lock box that I use. This way I know my max and so forth. If you don't want to rub shoulders and meet some lets say interesting individuals I would stay away from locals but in my experience locals now pay a lot quicker than on-line books (Blame Neteller) and a lot of my action is with locals.Comment -

#4Do "locals" = local bookies in your town that you're fortunate enough to meet through a friend of a friend?Comment -

#6Its a no- brainer. Locals are definetly the way to go. They all pay faster and are more guaranteed than most online books. In todays market there is not a guaranteed book out there. I dont care what anybody says. It can end in a second. Where there is personal interaction, there is a higher chance of getting paid in case of a problem. Locals are the way to go , today. Period.Comment -

#8I agree with JJ. Although I haven't played with a local in a awhile, I've never had so many headaches as I'm having with the offshore. Just calling up these offshore outfits make me sick. Thanks.Comment -

#9In addition, they try to implement these security questions, password, etc. and at the end. They are out to scam you (which has happened many times).Comment -

#11locals doesn't seem to be safe. first, you have to carry around bagful of cash. imagine you're trying to collect 10k...that is not a lot for alot of offshore books, but when you deal with locals, you have to be careful not to get jumped on your way home.Comment
