Guys, I live in the south. I am a 30 yr old white male. I was disciplined by my father when I stepped out of line as a youth. My father was a no nonsense kinda of man. I couldn't do silly things like get tatoo's like my friends or piercings had I wanted them. I also did not have long hair. I grew up playing sports competetively and always kept my head shaved because that was the cool thing to do. I have always been super compettitive. I look like a man and talk like a man.


Above was just a little background about me.

Fast forward a few years. There appears there is nobody like me out there left. I go out into the public and what I see is depressing. Our youth does not have a manly look. When I say youth, I am also talking about my age and younger, but I also see it in older men. They dress like females and talk like females. I have seen more confirmed looking faggots lately than I have ever seen in my previous lifetime. What gives? Why is there no manly looking people anymore? Everybody now looks very Metro in there appearance. I noticed American men have a "European LooK"

Bottomline
I use to leave my house and see people that intimidated me. I use to think if I step out of line here I might get my ass kicked. I don't have those feelings anymore. I am not a bad ass or a fighter, but I don't feel like I would be challenged by anyone nowadays.

lyon, seems there are more parts to your question and it's being generalized.

1) How a man dresses does not necessarily define who that man is. I'm older than you are by 13 years and have seen all types of fashion changes since I growing up. Personally the worst thing for me is when I see as Paco pointed out the panst hanging off their ass. ManI hate that. I understand freedom of expression and all but what is the message, "I have on clean underwear."

2) Not sure homsexuals are any more liked, accepted or gayer depending on their race. I used to actually be very homophobic. I was seeing this lady in Jacksonville at the time, we would get together on weekends. Well one weekend we went out and met up with some of her friends. Her all male all flaming friends. The night started off as uncomfortable as all hell for me. At some point though I realized I wasn't hating life anymore and that these guys were actually funny as hell and major draw for the hotties at the club. They weren't hitting on me so no threat that way and I mean they were just people. The key here is people. I wasn't viewing them at this point as almost men, partial women, weirdo's or anything I was looking at them and treating them like people. I got back to Gainesville later that weekend and thought about what had happened. I realized at that point up until this encounter I had always been homophobic. Never thought about it would have said noway not me I treat everybody as equals if I had been asked but I was homophobic as hell and just didn't know it. Since that day I learned to treat people as people, nothing more nothing less until they prove themselves unworthy of being treated as such.
3) Father figure. You obviously had one and that is great but so many, myself included didn't have that growing up. There are far too many single parent (generally mothers) families out there. Growing up in that environmet might be part of the problem. From the perspective of dress, I can't answer. I've always been clean cut (shaved headed) jeans and T's kind of guy. There was that Miami Vice phase but it passed. I see the Metro look now and to be honest I wish I could pull it off. I'm a fat fck and it just would be totally NOT GOOD if I did. I think the look though doesn't suggest they aren't manly men or are exploring their feminine side. I think it just says they are completely comfortable with themselves.
4) I don't know if I am wrong or right in my beliefs, but I try to accept people as people. I don't have to agree with things they do in life but I'm not there to judge what's right for them. If it doesn't interfer with my life and doesn't harm anyone then I generally accept it or ignore it. I'm not talking about drugs and crime or anything like that I mean how they dress, walk or talk. Now don't get me wrong I will absolutely make fun of the different styles that are out there.
5) Reading your initial portion I couldn't help but picture the Bruce Sprinstein album cover with the hankerchief, t-shirt and blue jeans. I don't think that image makes us anymore or less American or manly, it's just an image.
