Its the last hole at The Quarry, a par 5. I hit a good drive and got about 260 left. I hit a 3 wood ok but it draws off the fairway into the light rough. When I get close to my ball I notice right next to my ball a very large hawk is eating a rabbit. The hawk gives me one of those take another step and I'm going to kill you looks as I get closer to my ball.

I tell the other players and show them the hawk which was like 5 feet from my ball. I took a drop like 20 yards to the side, no closer of course, hit a wedge up and made par. No one had said anything but I could tell they were talking asking what was the rule. Anyway, they gave me an unplayable lie penalty and a bogey. Cheap azz terds. Lost $9 because of that and then went home and watch my BTP best bet the Colts go up in flames. Kindof know how that rabbit felt.

You should've gotten relief if the animal was deemed dangerous. Rattlesnakes, bees, alligators are entitled to a free drop. Poison ivy, cactus and other plants are not.

It would actually be up to the rules officials but if the hawk was acting as you say, yes you would get a free drop under Decision 1-4/10

I would be more concerned with getting rabies from a half eaten carcass than losing a $9 golf bet.

Could have argued it was an "outside agency" as well.

Just another shot taking case. If I make bogey no one says a thing. A free shot.

I never call out someone unless they are badly breaking the rules or flat out mis-scoring(cheating). Just a couple of 20's are going to exchange hands anyway. The burr in this one was they all waited until I played the hole. Very ungentleman like imo.
