How do betting companies monitor us?
Hi guys, I'm relatively new to gambling. Meaning, I have been playing for about 9 months now and made and lost a few thousands GBP. I am down about 5-6 grand all in all, but I have learned my lessons and I am now slowly recovering .
OK, getting back to my original question, does anyone have any inside information about how the betting sites keep tags on us? I mean, do they use programs to spot people making money? And if so, what sum would trigger their system and put you on the "watch list"? Do they have people assigned to spotting smart punters, so that they can put limits on them, etc? What is a safe sum to be making on a regular basis, so as to stay under their radar? Any knowledge is welcome, as I am trying to employ the Art Of War's advice about knowing ones enemy, in order to defeat it...

      wow very complex question.

but if you aren't making $ on consistently +ev bets or chasing Steam at this moment, none of it applies to you.

did you sign up for any of our current outs, via SBR or other online gambling forum? that might make a difference however?

Well hang in there mate !
ALL major books believe u will eventually lose your bankroll, which is exactly what "most" gamblers will do .
Don't sweat it ,they love your play ,unless u start withdrawing your winnings on a regular basis .

Most people 90%+ just lose cuz its tough.

Some books online will just ban you if you hit over 65% and withdraw all the time. You are not what they are looking for as a customer. There's no way to hide this, sometimes you could play parlays to look like a drunk compulsive type. I'm pretty sure they spy on you if you are good.

One of the main ways books see if you will be profitable going forward is to see if you beat the closing line. Anyone can get lucky or unlucky over the short term, but if you consistently beat the closing line you will win longterm. This is for major sports, some small market sports can be beat even against the closing number.

If you are consistently winning, they will flag your account and keep on you to see if you are beating the closing line (a sharp bettor) or not (just getting lucky over the short term).

Haha Archie . I'm good baby, but not that good! Or was it you that you were on about, huh? And hey, you never explained those terms for me there :P

Thanks for all the info guys, I appreciate it. Well, in that case I wil just have to play small for the time being and raise the amounts I withdraw gradually, hoping I will stay under their radar.

But surely, there ought to be a law against this banning or limiting practiced by bookies. I mean c'mon, as long as you are not doing anything illegal, there should be no way they can impose harassment like that upon anyone. Its no crime to use one's brain. It is a fair game as long as they can accept the fact that some people will just be smarter than others. After all, the smart people are only taking a very small percentage of their winnings. Surely they can live with that. We are like mere mosquitoes perched on an elephant's back, aren't we? And it's not even their money, it's the other poor people's that don't think before they bet. OK, I would understand it if they only banned people that make like thousands a day. But anything less than that it's just outrageous and plain abuse.

I undertand that it is a lot easier, quicker and cheaper for them to just get rid of the smart punter, than to rethink their strategy, change the betting procedure, etc. But banning smart people should definitely be against the law. It is plain discrimination and it should never be allowed. I wonder, if people take them to the IBAS or other regulating bodies, do they just get away with it?
