I had 442 points before the casino.

It took me a couple hours to lose them.

I'm a vet with online casinos, so I knew the risks and I knew the odds were against me. But I've hit hot streaks before and figured the software was stacked for hot streaks when players were survivors...especially in the "testing phase" of the SBR casino. But it turned out I was wrong. I should've known better.

Hell, I know online casinos are a stupid, moronic way to lose real cash. That's why I hardly play them anymore.

But for points? Fukin points? Hell, I'll roll the dice on a few hundred points. Surely SBR had a clue and wouldn't stack the deck against their members so early in the game.

But they did. They went about this in the wrong way.

Would it really have killed SBR if a few dozen players made 5 or 6 hundred points before the software scaled back the odds and kept them from making 5,000?

Whatever. It's points. It's only pizza. But it's bad business.

Am I gone for good? After 2,000 posts in just a few months? After thousands of hours on this site, patronizing the advertisers and opening two dozen sportsbook accounts that I never would have without SBR?

Hell no. I'll be around. I'll just be around a whole lot less. SBR showed me they can prey on human weakness just as easily as the bastards in Costa Rica. That's cool. They can take my points and joke about it. They know it's not cash outta my wallet, so they know I won't be hurting when I make my grocery list.

But it's still bad business. Shortsighted. Cruel. Dumb.

No, odtw, they don't ever want to "take it all." As Dozer said, they actually want people to win points and have fun and cash in prizes and all that shit. That's what the points promotion is all about. The point system is promoted because SBR wants to develop loyalty from their members and produce high page views and member activity, which drives their advertising rates, referral revenue, and therefore their company profits. It's supposed to be like airline miles or credit card rewards.

Which is why it was dumb to launch a standard rigged casino. Everyone with a brain would agree with you that in the real-money world, "online casinos have horrible odds for steady profit." But SBR's casino is not a revenue generator for SBR. At least not in the same sense as it is for an offshore book. SBR's casino is a promotion designed to encourage member loyalty and activity.

Unfortunately, it has encouraged the opposite emotion in me. It has shown me that SBR is willing to steal hard-earned points (their monetary system) through rigged software that is guaranteed to rape their own members over the long term.

But if the airlines were to set up a system for their customers to "gamble and win!" with some sort of contest for airline miles, you can be damn sure there would be plenty more winners than losers. It's just good business. It engenders loyalty. It produces happy customers who spread the word.
