I really want to give Matchbook a try, but I fear I won't understand how the exchange concept works. Is it hard to learn/comprehend?
Advice welcomed.

Very easy to figure out, though it takes a little practice. Just start with $1 bets and watch them go through the whole process until you've got it all figured it out. However, word to the wise, be very careful, I almost screwed up royally when I first got started on Matchbook a couple years ago. I tried to make an offer to take a dog at +200, but got confused and accidentally offered the FAVORITE at +200. Obviously someone quickly bought my offer, but thank god the dog ended up winning outright, so I risked 200 to win 100 on a 5.5 point dog in the NFL. Whew!
Another piece of advice, be very careful with live betting, because it can be very tempting. I've made some money on it lately, but a couple years ago I lost $1k on a fluke play in a Cowboys/Giants game. I don't remember the exact details, but basically the first half line was like Giants -3.5. As the Cowboys lined up to kick a 25 yard field goal with 30 seconds left in the second quarter, down 7, someone offered Giants -3.5 1h at -350. So of course I bet $1k on it. They easily made the field goal, cutting the lead to 4, and lined up for the kickoff. So Giants are up 4 and all they have to do is receive the kickoff, down it, and run the clock out to go into halftime, and I win my bet...well, they muffed the kickoff, fumbled, and Cowboys recovered on the 30 with about 10 seconds left. Kicked a field goal and cut the lead to 1 as the half ended.
