Can't see him ever being an all pro.

haven't seen enough of him to make a good judgement

barely seen 1 game and it was against a mediocre ND secondary

the ability to read a defense and stay calm is one of the biggest factors in being a successful NFL QB IMO and if he can't do these things than he is screwed

if he can then he will be in the league a long time

arm strength and size are extremely overrated..as long as they are decent then no problem...must be able to read defenses and progress through at least 2 receivers and a check down.....actually reading it and not blindly dumping it off

I was very impressed by him in clutch situations, he was almost uncanny on 4th down conversions especially the last couple years.

He will need to adjust because LSU ran kind of a bullshit college offense with lots of receiver screens all the time.

Playing behind that O-LIne he may look horrible though, I mean Aaron Brooks was an decent QB for a while and then went to Oakland...

If he has the desire to be great and the right qb coach, he can be a superstar.

History tells us there is no way to know...

Picking QB's high in the first round has been a crap shoot for a long time. For every Peyton Manning, there is a Ryan Leaf. For every Carson Palmer, there is an Andre Ware.

History has also taught us you don't have to be a high first round pick to be an HOF QB... Joe Montana 3rd round, Tom Brady 6th round.

I think to a large extent it depends on where he goes, what kind of system he's in, what kind of coaching he gets. The Raiders have been mostly bad for a long time now. My personal opinion is that the game has passed Al Davis by and as long as he's making the decisions the Raiders may continue to be one of the bottom feeders in the NFL.

            Just my .02 cents worth!

The Raiders need a lot of things!

I think they should have traded down, and tried to add talent to this god awful team.

To answer the original question though. I feel he will be just another average QB in the NFL. By no means he should have been drafted #1 overall despite the one good game he had against ND in that Sugar Bowl. He had one good combine workout, and now he's listed as a can't miss.

He could be the next Daunte Culpepper!

Ask Minny & Miami how well the first one's worked out.

russell is good, but the team that surrounds him might hold him back

superior athlete, but I'm not sure he will be able to read the NFL defenses on a regular basis...
