If shit hits the fan AFTER you leave your job
    Is it still your fault?

I have a mate who quit his job over a month ago and on his last shift he packed a wrong order for a customer - didn't put in one computer part because he had accidentally packed two parts in an earlier order. He didn't tell the boss and got the fvck out of there after it happened by quitting the day after. Customer has come in to complain three times now. Boss hasn't said anything to my mate. Boss says he's still investigating the matter.

My mate is shaken up by it. Thinks he'll get called up by his boss. I think no way you are held liable for sh*t once you throw in your uniform.

    Thoughts?

Is he responsible for this? or has he washed his hands clean?

Unless he did something criminal, he shouldn't be held responsible.

He was meant to put in a piece that was worth $100 but he put an extra one in the earlier order and didn't tell his boss.

Now the customer is saying whoever packed the order is a thief and the boss is confused because there weren't any spare parts lying around. It's not like my mate
          pocketed the extra part.

The guy is worrying himself sick thinking cops are going to go after him for stealing at work which he didn't.

Yeah seriously. It's going to fall under the company being liable. When a company hires an employee and that employee curses out a customer, the customer can sue the company for that pain and suffering bullshit. It's on the employer to screen employees and do quality control checks to make sure they are living up to the company's standards. So like stated above...unless he did something criminal the employee is at no fault.

              You've got to be kidding.

Having supervised a shipping operation in a previous life, believe me, no one is expecting 100% accuracy from shippers. Shippers are far from perfect. A lot of times, you're happy if you can get guys that can add two-digit numbers in their head and don't reek of booze.

Inventory is never 100% accurate. It is usually a big freaking mess. If something appears to be missing, you have no idea who to blame. We're talking about a hundred dollar part here? Even if he had just stuck it in his pocket, it's not like it would be the crime of the century.

This whole scenario sounds ridiculous. The guy is sweating over a hundred dollar mistake at a place where he stopped working a month ago?

              Gimme a break.

It's a fairly small shop that he worked in. At the time, it was only him and another employee there. When it came time to pack the order, he realized he was short 1 part so him and his co-worker started looking for the computer part and couldn't find it - he knew he must've doubled up on an earlier order.

Thing is, customer came in to complain about 3 weeks ago. One of the supervisors in charge took down the customers details and said he'd look into it - he didn't.

Customer comes back in yesterday and goes ape sh*t and threatens to call the cops if he doesn't get the part. Supervisor says they are investigating it thoroughly, going through cameras and will get back to the guy. After the supervisor went home, the customer came back AGAIN and started yelling at the worker who was there (same one that was with my mate when this happened).

My mate gets a call from the co-worker warning him that the customer is pissed as fukk.

The shop should fukking give the guy the computer part and end it but it's been 1 month and they are still looking into it.
