Pujols and Miggy have done what they've done in spite of the best technology in the world trying to game-plan against them. Ted Williams would have some Joe Schmoe opposing him on the mound who would just get told 'go get 3 by ole Teddy' and that was his scouting report.

    No comparison.

If Ted Williams played in todays era he would have Ichiro/Tony Gwynn type numbers at best, possibly a high average but he would lose most of his power numbers trying to compensate for pitchers that actually have a repetiore and can focus on his weaknesses.
Ted Williams was a student of the game, he would have been able to take advantage of that technology as well. He'd have been a legendary hitter at any time period.

Mantle was one of the fastest ever (look it up) going from first to third.
Played stellar outfield. Too bad he tore up his knee in that drain pipe, his numbers would have been even better.

Yeah, do the math, 14-54-.390 off the chart .462 (almost half his PA's result with him getting on) at the quarter poll.

please dont tell me you think "random testing" stops, prevents, or even catches the majority..hell i get "randomly tested" for narcotics and while my test always comes back clean i can assure you i rarely am, and that test happens while im in fact dirty.

peds different in the sense that you dont have to have them in your system or have elevated levels of testosterone during the season to benefit from them, real easy for a guy to run a cycle of something for 10 weeks of the offseason and be totally "clean" during testing yet still benefit from the 5-10 pounds of muscle he put on while no one was looking..

Miguel Cabrera is putting up some pretty ridiculous numbers, but people are showing a rather short term memory loss here. He isn't even the best hitter this century.

Pujols has done it longer, and more consistently, but...

Barry Bonds had the best five-year span I have ever seen (2000-2004). The guy had a .609 on-base percentage, at the age of 40!!! Obviously 'roided up, but still almost impossible to fathom.

Pujols is declining already and he is only a few years older than Cabrera. Cabrera has the best numbers this decade actually
