“An update on Mike (Kafka), he's feeling better today than he did yesterday and he was feeling better yesterday than he did Saturday. We expect him to go through some things in practice and hopefully a little bit more on Wednesday but at this point we expect Mike to play. The depth chart is listed as `or' and both guys are getting prepared to play. Mike and I just met again after going over some things and he's feeling pretty good considering where he was at on Saturday. That's encouraging. It's good news“.

• The Wildcats gave Penn State all they wanted on Saturday, going toe-to-toe with the Nittany
Lions for three quarters. Midway through the second quarter, Northwestern lost starting quarterback Mike Kafka to a left leg injury. When Kafk a left the game with 8:15 remaining in the first half,
he had totaled 170 yards of total offense (128 passing and 42 rushing) and a rushing TD.
• After facing the Big Ten’s top-ranked defense in Penn State last weekend, the Wildcats brace
for another top-rated defensive unit in Iowa.
The Hawkeyes rank third nationally in pass efficiency defense, 19th in total defense (297.6 ypg), 13th in scoring defense (15.8 ppg) and 39th in rushing defense (117.4 ypg).
Northwestern has recorded victories in its last two visits to Kinnick Stadium: 21-7 in 2006 and 22-17 in 2008 The Wildcats have won three of the last four meetings with the Hawkeyes.

• Northwestern gained 246 yards in the first half and 371 for the game. Coming into the
game, Penn State was allowing a Big Ten-best 240.2 yards per game. The Wildcats also totaled
119 rushing yards, 40 more yards than Penn State allows.
• Quarterbacks Mike Kafk a and Dan Persa led Northwestern in rushing with 42 yards apiece.
Kafk a is NU’s leading rusher this season with 248 yards. He has been responsible for 69.6 percent
of NU’s offensive yardage this year (2,443 of 3,512).
• Persa set personal single-game career bests for completions (14), attempts (23), passing
yards (115), rushing attempts (14) and rushing yards (42). Persa’s 25-yard run tied as the longest
rush for an NU player this season (Arby Fields had a 25-yard run vs. Syracuse).
• Eleven different NU receivers caught passes against Penn State.
