Tonights ESPN Special- "Without Bias"..should be interesting

I grew up a Celtic fan following Hondo-Cowens-JoJo-Charlie and Paul

Then later on -Larry, Cornbread, Tiny and Co

I had no internet..I was so sick for a sport spage I would buy the next days newspaper early edition the night before..Sometimes the Met`s boxscores were in them if they played an afternoon game..I used to hand write the Mets`s stats daily in my book at home

I`ll never forget that night...I buy the early edition and the front page headline read

Len Bias Dead

This was one sport`s all time greatest tragedies

I was really looking forward to watching him as a Celtic

It took the franchise ten years to recover

He truly looked like he was gonna be fantastic

His death shook the standings in the NBA eastern division for years to come

Did not some guy...maybe Hank Gathers shoot all free throws left handed for the rest of his career in tribute to Len?..I think the kid went to Loyola Marymount..but my memory fades me..

I will watch this..maybe check to see if it is repeated late night..or I will mix it in with Buff-Bowling Green, NBA and NHL

Programming alert: Len Bias documentary on ESPN tonight

It might not be a story Celtics fans want to relive, but ESPN will be airing a documentary on Len Bias tonight at 8 as part of its critically acclaimed “30 for 30″ series. The hour-long episode will examine the sudden death of Bias from a cocaine overdose in 1986, less than two days after the C’s selected him with the No. 2 pick in the NBA draft.
Bias’ story is well-known in these parts — the Maryland star was expected to join Larry Bird and eventually carry the torch into another decade of success. Instead, the only memory of Bias with the Celtics was the photo of him sitting in a suit on draft night with a green C’s hat perched atop his head. The Celtics, who had won the championship two weeks before Bias’ death, would not win another title for 22 years, a drought that ended in 2008.
The documentary will air against the Celtics-76ers game tonight, but fans without DVR can catch a replay tomorrow night at 10 on ESPN2.

Looking forward to this as well. I grew up after this had happened, but Ive seen some short 5 minute clips on it and read a pretty long article on it a while back. It'll be nice to see some more detailed stuff. And I agree, these 30 for 30's are very nice. Have only seen the one about Ali/Larry Holmes and the Baltimore Colts, but both have been very good pieces.

He would never played long in the NBA ,most probably, who needed a druggie on a clean program like the Celtics ?
