A model told a court yesterday her manager suggested she undergo a mao shan sex ritual to land more jobs when she was just a struggling teenager in the industry.
The woman, identified only as Miss X, testified against bulldozer driver Au Yeung Kwok-fu, 55, from behind a screen at the District Court. Au Yeung has denied Nine counts of using false pretenses to procure a person for unlawful sex.
The Secondary Three-educated Miss X, now 21, said her female manager called her up in April 2007 and told her she knew a mao shan master who could bring her luck in her career. She was 19 at the time.
"She said because we're in the performing industry, the ritual would involve oral sex and sexual intercourse," Miss X told the court.

Desperate to get more modeling jobs and to make more money, Miss X agreed after spending a week considering the proposal.
She told Judge Stanley Chan Kwong-chi she really believed the ritual could change her luck.
Her manager arranged for a meeting at a Tsim Sha Tsui bar for Miss X and Au Yeung. Another woman, called Ah Ta, was also present.
On another day in April 2007, the four went to a North Point flat to perform the ritual. The manager and Ah Ta went into a bedroom with Au Yeung separately after Au Yeung had asked each of them to burn three sticks of incense and repeat some spells after him.
Both of the women spent some time alone with Au Yeung inside the room while Miss X watched television in the living room.
Miss X said she did not know what happened inside the bedroom, but the model recalled her manager telling her she would have to participate as well.
Miss X was the last to enter the bedroom. She said Au Yeung ordered her to remove all her clothes for a body cleansing ceremony. He then took a talisman and brushed it over her naked body.
After that procedure Miss X said Au Yeung took off his clothes and gestured to her to perform oral sex for him. He then instructed her to lie on the bed and had unprotected sex with her. She said he drew something like spells on her body with his finger during intercourse.
Afterward, the pair dressed and returned to the living room. Au Yeung burned a talisman and mixed the ash with water and asked Miss X to drink it. She obeyed and handed him a red packet containing HK$200 before they left as previously instructed by her manager.
About a month later, her manager arranged another ritual with Au Yeung. They went to another flat in Sha Tin, which he claimed was owned by a female friend and who was present. The friend spent some time alone with Au Yeung in a room before Miss X was asked to participate in the sex ritual. Her manager did not take part.
According to the prosecution, Miss X was told the ritual would have to be performed nine times to become effective.
She claimed she had unprotected sex with Au Yeung nine times between April and December 2007.
The trial continues.
