Mark McGwire returns to the Cardinals as hitting coach.......
Now watch Pujols hit 80HRs.

Worst choice ever, A .263 lifetime hitter who never admitted to using steroids. FAIL by the Cards.
Tony Gwynn 9,288 lifetime at bats, 434 strikeouts, no steroids. Struck out 4.6% of the time.
Mark "Steroid King" McGwire 6,187 at bats, 1596 strikeouts, used steroids but never admitted it. Struck out 25.7% of the time.
Compare him against other HR hitters...
Albert Pulos 11% of the time strikesout. Lifetime .334 hitter.
AROD 20.1% of the time and he admitted to steroids. Lifetime .306 hitter
Cards are pathetic in picking him without the controversy he is an avg hitter at best.

He is a 263 career avg not what you would call a hitting coach but.....he does one on one's in his back yard and they players that went there said a lot of good things about having Mac work with them.

I agree. It's insane that he's back in baseball after getting a free ride on the whole steroid mess.

La Russa simply being loyal to the players he coached and managed himself. McGwire certainly doesn't fit the mold of prototypical hitting instructor, but the only thing that I'm not sure about right now is the fact he's been completely away from the the game on a professional level as far as I know. The lack of recent experience is a greater concern to me than any steroids crap. And the strangest part if why do you announce it like that and answer questions without him being on hand for the deal? McGwire's got to field the questions eventually. I hope he stonewalls the media, always responds, "I'm not here to talk about the past," maybe even shakes his finger a la Raffy Palmeiro (who I think would be a better hitting instructor by the way).
