    Do you miss your local?
I don't. That MF'er used to really piss me off. For one thing I would call Saturday starting at 10AM, and of course it was ALWAYS busy.

Then when I get Mr. Weasel on the phone I'm like: #136 what's my figure? He says call back, only taking bets now. I say OK give me a run down. He says no just tell me what games you want(cause there is like 50 games). I said I want them all...He says; You going to bet on all of them? I said yes, if I like the line.

OK, I get past that somewhat tense minute and here comes the run down.

    902 is 3
    904 is 20 Over44
    905 is 1
<whoa Nelly! I say wtf are you doing? I dont have the games listed by number. Give me the team name>
Well he sighs and mutters some hardass stuff under his breath and then goes so fast I just stop writing. I figure screw it, I'll play whatever line he gives me on my call back.

    Nah...I don't miss that crap.

john, i guess you must have had one of those small timer type local there. because, most real locals take calls 24/7

i've never had a problem with any of my locals at all. infact, i prefer locals over offshore.

Most of my plays are through my local. Football season can be a pain, but like bbd said I can call 24/7

I like locals still because many are still behind the times and jack up the lines are your local teams and are usually way off on totals as they do not use like over 5 -150, they have 5 -110 either way.

Also locals you do not need cash up front so you can bet 30 games at a 100 a clip as an example and don not have to put up $3300 like an online book.

Be careful though as it easy to chase

You got that right jj. Chasing is the only major drawback to having a local. You need to have very strong money management.

Man forget that. I don't want to meet Mr. Weasel in the graveyard on Tuesday night. I don't want to run to the bank and watch the clerk count out what used to be my money. I'm through with the busy signals and giving me the lines so fast not even the county clerk could keep up. Mr. Weasel -> yea you, your out!

I usally meet my runner not the bookmaker on Tuesdays either way as we even up. It usually is at a Deli or Barns & Noble if it is a big number.

If it is under a dime it is at a deli over Subs

Now if the number is high we both agree it should be in a safe place like a book store, I know odd but safe. What we usually do is talk a little and look around and then he gets up and gets 5 novels if he has to pay me or vie versa. He puts an even amount in each book and then puts books back and then he leaves. I then get up and take money out of each book, the locations are usally remote aisles that sell foreing books so not many people in there.

Its a hassle but safe and clean.

I could count the times I had to meet on Thursday on one hand. It was so bad that after my Tueday meeting in the cemetery he would say same time next week?? I'd say what if I win? He'd say; you won't <fvcker!>

I haven't used locals in 5 years but I had the same type of problems as John. My local would come in one hour before the early games. He would then leave as soon as the first one started and came back at night one hour before also. Most were the same.

One had a phone service where you could leave messages. Their lines very rarely changed. The only time I can remember changes is when Doc was hot with his Big Ten play of the year when the line could move as much as 7points.

The only nice thing is that they all had runners so I rarely had to travel. Things may have changed in the past five years.

I would have to think actually more squares bet with locals than wise guys

I see so many guys just bet any line you give them

Being a local bookmaker is real easy money but illegal

soo many players and websites are so pro-sportsbook and was it ethical for the player to _______ (whatever). I must be the only one but I couldn't stand my bookie who I called Mr. Weasel.

One of my competitors said in a thread at their forum that "the books don't like SBR John but they have to put up with him". I'm thinking does he think thats a shot at me or what??? I'm glad they dont like me (although I think most do..not the crappy ones though). I didnt like losing and I didnt care for Mr. Weasel although I did buy him a new car every other year .
