I never understood the logic here. Marathons are brutal. It's true you have more time to catch up after a bad start, but you also have more time to fall further behind and maybe collapse completely.
This statement is an insult to marathon runners whose accomplishments should be admired. Instead, those who say this appear to think that any loser of a sprint can have success with a marathon. Most runners (bettors) are losers at both.
