The stiff of the year award goes to.....
    A B!tch named ******!

I have ran my own construction business for the past 6 years and have been very fortunate to have not gone through this yet.

We are in the process of completely remodeling this lady's kitchen. Cabinets, Granite the whole 9. We have a contract and agreed on a payment plan. We would be compensated weekly for work already performed. The B!tch comes home with $300 and a story instead of the agreed upon $1500 payment for the week. She swore up and down we would receive the balance on Tuesday ( today ). I felt the "fair" way to deal with this was when she settled her balance we would return to work that day. She didn't like this idea because it would delay the job.

I tried my best to explain to her that if she didn't pay the first payment as promised, it makes it much harder to work and expect future compensation. I have never had a problem with any of my customers of this nature. If it was a quality issue, we were there the next day to resolve the issue.

I hate to do this but if she hasn't settled her balance by 5pm today, I will be forced to take further action. She is a nice lady but this is business. She did not honor the contract so her kitchen is completely torn apart and will stay like that.

I will be forced to place a Lien on the Property tomorrow morning if she does not pay, and at this point I do not expect her to.

Sorry for the long story but I just had to vent. This is just gonna delay a $12k payday that was due on the 1st of Nov which my helper and I were counting on.

I wouldn't take it to heart, it's usually the customer getting stiffed in 99.9% of cases.

You are a self absorbed dick head who cannot keep his word, so you should not be responding to this thread.

That's what's so frustrating. I hear these stories all of the time. I have been called in to finish many jobs that another contractor started and ran off with the money. I usually offer a discount in these situations to help ease the loss they took.

go ahead and place the lien now and pull off the job until it is settled.
I own a finish carpentry biz and have been through this. I got stiffed by a GC for about 3K a couple years ago.
I placed a lien but it didnt help, I still havent seen a dime of it. GC filed bankruptcy...
I could have sued him for the money but ya cant get blood from a turnip. I decided to cut my losses and move on instead of paying a lawyer and dragging it out.

I feel the same way right about now. Thanks for the advice.

I wish. Only allowed to charge $1000 or 10%, whichever's less.

You need a judgement before you can attach a lien.
