    Anybody experience Deja Vu?
This happens to me about once every few years. I dream something very random and insignificant, and occasionally I will remember the dream the next day. It is usually a completely ordinary or mundane scene, only about 10 seconds or so of action.

The last time it happened was a few years ago. I dreamed about being in a room that was unfamiliar to me and somebody introducing me to a person, me shaking that person's hand. And that was it. It was completely innocuous and insignificant but I remembered it the next day clearly. Then about a year later I was at somebody's house for a get together (some place I'd never been) and somebody introduced me to a person and it flashed over me that this was the exact scene I had dreamed, down to the paintings on the wall. I don't even remember who the person was now. It's not somebody that I've ever had contact with since nor expect to again. But the scene was exactly as I dreamed it.

It just happened to me again the other night. I work at a restaurant. I used to work at a different restaurant with a friend who is also my housemate. About a year and half ago I had a dream that I was working at a restaurant but it was a different restaurant than where I was at the time. Again, nothing significant about the scene I dreamed. Just about 10 seconds of me walking up to a computer terminal in this strange restaurant that I did not recognize. I told my roommate about the dream for some reason, just because it was vivid and I have been prone to have these deja vu's stemming from random scenes I remember in an innocent dream.

Anyway, I stopped working at that particular restaurant and took a job in sales last October. The job didn't work out and come this past October I found myself missing the restaurant business and decided to go back to it. I took a job at a very nice place that I had never stepped foot in before. I've been working there for a few months now, but Saturday night I was walking to one of the computer terminals and it hit me.

It's really hard to explain if you've never experienced this sensation. It's like a wave comes over you and you kind of flash back to the dream and remember that it was exactly how you "imagined" it. You sort of get a "butterflies" feeling in your stomach when you realize what has happened. It's a pretty powerful thing. I'm sure there are people on this board who have had similar occurrences. This last one has left me really questioning things though. I asked my roommate if she remembered the conversation we had about the dream when it happened and thankfully she did (because nobody ever believes me when I describe these things after the fact).

I don't mind these occasional moments. They are actually pretty cool. But this last one like I said really has me evaluating the implications of it all. Is our future already decided? Are we just going through the motions until we get there? What does this tell us about our own minds and this .... ability for lack of a better word? What else is our mind capable of? I'm not a spiritual person at all, but this kind of shit creeps me out a little bit.

yeah, its kind of a confusing feeling when it happens, sometimes from dreams you have happened years and years ago... never anything important. I have read that the mind can register experiences faster than normal sometimes, giving the feeling of 'being here before' but if you have actually brought it up to someone before the fact, then that would negate that excuse. Personally I never have been able to do that, but seems very real to me....

wish i could see the winners to some games.

Good summary Jello. I have experienced almost identical situations as the one you had. It does seems sometimes like our future is already decided.

                  blitty -

You should check out the show Flash Forward on ABC. Cool show so far. The premise is that one day everybody in the world blacks out for 2 minutes and 17 seconds. They all have a "dream" for that amount of time about a specific day 6 months later (same day for everyone). Some people are taking a shit on the toilet. Some people are talking to somebody else they've never met. They are piecing it together to determine that the "dreams" are all intertwined and actually a glimpse at what will happen in the future. Postings on message boards are connecting people who were in the same dream sequence with others who they had previously never met. Basically they all saw themselves where they would be on this date at a specific time. Some people didn't dream anything, just blacked out which they think means they will be dead. I'm digging the show.

                  wal66 -

I wish I could. Unfortunately whenever these happen they are completely random and mundane occurrences. No winning numbers or anything else worthwhile. Sorry bud.

A year and a half delay? I'm saying I have dreamed a 10 second or so sequence and then experienced the 10 seconds in reality later, a year or even futher in the future. It's been very rare for me, but the last time I actually told my roommate about the dream when it happened.

I know the post was long, so I don't blame anyone for skimming.

I say I'm not spiritual, because I don't consider things like this to be supernatural. I (obviously) do believe that we - our minds - have enormous untapped potential that we'll probably be extinct before we even come close to understanding.

That's beyond my ability to ever know. I don't believe in God in a traditional sense.

I have deja vu several times a year. It really freaks me out.

On a similar topic, this thing happens to me all the time. I'll try to explain. Have you ever said or read a word and then heard that word like a second later on the TV? Or you hear a word on TV or a word someone has said and then read that same word at the same time. You know what I mean? It's strange but it happens to me very often.

The deja-vu (seen-before) refers to the second part, looking back at the original perception. You can learn to recognize it at the first stage. In which case it's not deja-vu, but premonition.

Wow. Do you mean that you get the sensation of deja vu 2 -3 times a month, or do you mean that you can actually recall the dream and recognize that the setting is exactly as you dreamed? I think this has happened to me maybe 5 times in my life. I've probably had the sensation more often than that, but only a handful of times have I been able to remember the specific dream that triggered it.
