How should the poster of the year polls be graded?
I'm going to take the 8 posters who get the most votes for "worst poster of the year" and the 16 posters who get the most votes for "poster of the year" and we'll do an elite 8 and a sweet 16 contest (they will have the same format as the 128 man contest except the number of votes you get in the nomination thread will determine your ranking).

Please tell me how you think the polls for these contests should be graded:

Option 1: Simple majority (minimum 500 posts to vote)

This is what we did last year. The minimum of 500 posts to vote was necessary due to cheating.

Option 2: Electoral votes determine the winner (minimum 100 posts to vote)

    This is very simple:

Poster A gets 20 votes from posters who have 50,000 total posts.

Poster B gets 15 votes from posters who have 55,000 total posts.

Poster B wins because he or she received more electoral votes.

The minimum of 100 posts to vote will keep posters from making new accounts just for voting (which apparently actually happened last year).

If you have any other ideas, tell everyone now. Don't wait to complain later!

Let's make the voting stress-free and controversy-free this year. Tell me what you think now, don't complain later.

They'll care when the voting starts. If it's up to me we're going with the simple majority option. The electoral college is good for nominations but for one on one polls it's all gonna come down to a few people's votes: pavy, jj, sammy, etc.

It's kind of dumb if we're all just waiting around for pavy to make his vote to decide who wins. I think we have to go with the simple majority option. It worked last year, it will be fine this year.

I think you narrow it, not even to POST count, but maybe a few things.

If they have less than maybe 500 posts, look at JOINED DATE, if it has been for a LONG TIME like some posters have, they can vote as well, knowing all the posters. If not, then they need 750+ posts to vote.

No electoral votes, then it's just who has more posts and stuff.

Majority wins, but to vote, they must have 750+ posts or have been posting for min of say 6 months to know a lot of the posters

I think there's plenty of ghosts that have been around for longer than 6 months. We went with the 500 post minimum to try and eliminate ghosts from voting. 750 seems like an awful lot just to be eligible to vote. We decided 500 was enough last year, I'm open to changing it if everybody wants that.

There won't be any points awarded for this contest but the prizes will be a lot better than say 1000 points, imho:

Do it with electoral votes. In this way the ghosts can still vote but the ghost influence to the outcome of the vote is irrelevant.

Sam give me ten posters that would put you in their top 3 of 2009 posters and I'll give ya ten points if I agree

I don't care really one way or another but if the voting goes like it is now, you power posters have way too much influence. You, JJ, and Bread's vote might count for more then like 50 other regulars combined.

That's the problem. The electoral vote system works for the nomination round. But just as you said, the power posters will have way too much power in the polls.

We could increase the minimum for voting on polls to 750 posts, that could be a compromise that's acceptable to everyone.

What if for the polls we do the electoral college system with a maximum amount of votes from each poster. For example, you should get 218 or so but we'd give you 100. There would be a max of 100 electoral college votes from each poster for the polls. That's another possible compromise.

If we get two or three people like them voting together all the time it could decide the whole contest. That would make the contest a joke.

I think simple majority with a minimum of 750 posts to vote will work fine. It will eliminate almost all ghost votes and it will be fair to all, imho.
