#2I am always getting called for jury duty. Been called 6 times and everytime they try to put me on a jury. I never just get to sit there and do nothing. Been on both civil and criminal cases including convicting a guy of multiple felonies. I enjoyed it as I my work pays for jury duty. It is much better then working.
I know plenty of others that report and all they do is sit in the jury room all day and are never called into a courtroom. Make sure you bring a laptop or at least a book or something. Courts move very slow. A lot of downtime.Comment -

#3My sister got a notice, I never have and don't really want to I'm not going to send someone away for something I don't know 100% they did and don't want to let a psycho loose on the streets either, i don't think I can be called up anyways due to some trouble I have gotten in myself in the pastComment -

#4I found it to be fun actually. The court case I did only took about 5 hours. The jury deliberation took about 6 hours but we ****ed around quite a bit. Got paid 58 dollars for it but it was summer and I wasn't working anyways so that was fine. If you work a full time job, it probably sucks to lose the income though.Comment -

#18I've been called twice and selected once. Was a drug case where the defendant ran from police. We hear testimony and neither side really did anything to other than present the facts which obviously the State thought was a slam dunk. We go in the back and somehow the group elected me foreman. We go over a couple of things and I could tell that none of these people were taking any of this very seriously. Of the eight of us 4 were like he's a dealer he needs to go and 3 were like along for the ride. Not that I am overly committed to civic duty but I wanted to make sure these people weren't just ready to get out of there because this was a black kid and they had better things to do. So I start to explain how in the Gainesville area we have this commercial lawn service called Lawn Enforcement, complete with a star on the vehicles and employees that wear green tops and kakis. I go on to explain how this undercover officer was wearing the same type clothing and how he said in court that they rolled up and jumped out and the suspect just ran. When asked if he identified himself as an officer he said it was a pursuit and while he did yell it the suspect was off and running at the time. So I asked the member of the jury if they didn’t think it possible that the defendant sees a plain car come rushing up and this guy jumps out, that the kid freaked not knowing if it was a drive-bye or what but instinct said get the hell out of there? Now I was in the wrong because this was not in testimony but I wanted to see just how easily these people were swayed. After about an hour three more people were actually taking what I had suggested they question and were expanding on it. It wasn’t my intention to let a criminal go free I started out just trying to see if I could mess with the other jury’s. Anyway eventually we took a vote and it turns out they all voted he was innocent. So I fill out the jury form and we head back to the courtroom. The judge asked if we had reached a verdict. I stand and say yes and he tells me to bring it to the bench, so I do. As I am walking back to the box just as I am about to sit I say out loud OH CRAP! I rush back to the bench and grab the form, I had completely forgot to check the box guilty or not guilty. So in the course of 4 hours I had fulfilled my civil-duties, lived out my own version of 12 Angry Men, embarrassed myself in open court and probably set a drug dealer free.Comment -

#19plus what they pay is crack-head wages to be stuck in a disgusting shit-hole for who knows how long...not that it would make much difference to me but it clearly shows the total lack of respect for the public by offering them chicken feed...Comment -

#21i've only been called once and they let me go. Had to go down there, find parking, gather with everyone, wait for someone to take a roll call, sign some form, go sit in the courtroom, wait for damn near half the people to go up to the judge one by one and explain why they needed to be excused and couldn't do it, and watch the attorneys and prosecutors scan the rest of us, then excuse the rest of us that i guess didn't fit the profile for the jurors they wanted.Comment -

#23I got called 6 months after I turned 18, but I deferred it for a year and I have not gotten called since 3 years later, but most of my friends served on jury's/trials this summer, it really depends on what the case is, they try to settle most cases with out a jury and if they need to go to that measure they will, but its just a boring day and sucks because its a waste of time and I pray to God I dont get called. for my friends that served on a trials they said it was interesting and but boring as well and it was such a pain. good luck!Comment
