I realize this is a bit of a progressive thought on a fairly conservative site such as this. In this day and age though in which we are looking for "green solutions" to our finite resources and consumption problems why not eat our dead? There is no need to eat your relatives but we could start experimenting -- say on those killed in our wars (the enemy's corpses) or we could simply have culturally and ethnically inferior peoples whose governments owe us money, start sending us their dead for food. This would save a great deal of precious and ever dwindling real estate from being wasted for burial and mitigate the risk of corpses causing our underground water supplies to sour.
Think about it. The living human body will start breaking down muscle tissue for food and utilizing fat stores when nutrients are lacking. Babies feed on the milk of other human beings (mom). There is a significant caloric value within human flesh. And don't get me started on organ meat! How many livers, lungs etc are wasted each year by hospitals simply throwing them away or using them for research? The numbers are staggering!
If we would just set aside our archaic cultural norms and views of what is right and wrong we could elevate ourselves to a higher level of thought and drastically reduce problems such as world hunger and the national debt. Many people claim to be green in their thinking but are they willing to put their money where their mouth is and lobby for cutting edge ideas such as mine to be brought to fruition?
