i hate using wireless internet from a router. connection is never as fast as a direct connect dsl line or cable line. Hell my iphone is faster than 90% of wireless internet ive ever been on. I use my iphone 95% of the time.

I just got AT&T to send me one of their double wire modems for free on Wednesday and upgraded to a new Dell laptop...starting next Wed. I should have it all set up to have my desktop connected to DSL upstairs and wireless internet for my laptop throughout my house...I'm pumped...

This speed limitation is a known limitation of the processor chip in many consumer class routers. I used to work for an ISP who sold 10 Mbps connections but they never thought to actually test the equipment they were providing as part of the deal to see if it would actually handle 10Mbps... and it wouldn't. To get your full 15Mbps, you're going to have to buy a business or more expensive consumer device of some sort.

Nope. This was a wired router we tested. I agree that wireless can make performance worse, because if your signal strength is weak or if there is interference the 802.11b/g/n standards will auto-rate downward, but in the end, a router is a router, and the processor chip inside can only forward so many packets per second.

I don't know much, but this happens to be one subject I know intimately well, having been working with it for more than 10 years.

If what you're really saying is "put a wire directly from your laptop to your cable modem, and leave the router out of the equation," then you are in fact correct. But that's not really what you said.
