    Chris Carpenter....
....has as many RBI (6) today in 3 AB's as he did in his previous 287 major league AB's. If the voters weren't gonna vote him as the NY Cy Young winner, it may be time to re-evaluate.

You know you're having a bad day when you give up a gland slam to a pitcher who has drowned under the Mendoza line his whole career. pags pags11

I have no doubt that a 6-RBI game will convince some writers that a pitcher deserves to win the Cy Young. It's no different than a writer voting to give the Gold Glove to a shortstop because he batted .300 for the season.

Can someone explain to me why do you have to be a writer to vote on the MLB awards?

                tacomax,

I actually could hit quite well...what kind of athlete were you? did you play tennis or polo? What was your specialty? You don't look like much of an athlete...

It started many years ago when the newspaper beat writers played a much larger role in baseball. They were the only conduit between the fans and the games as very few were on TV. Now they have a much smaller role and much less respect overall, yet baseball is always slow to change these things.

They may have to when all the newspapers are gone
