i can see what you mean..hockey is not what it used to be back in the late 80's early 90s when it was wide open hockey and tons of action and lots of 6-5 games.. today, it's all 2-1... 2-0 games.. o/u's now are 5.. back then it was all 9.5 to 10.5..tough to score now, players are much bigger now and not much room to move out there.. lots of blocked shots, tough to score anymore.. the game is very tight now and could be boring at times..
back then, it was breakaways, 3 on 1's, 2 on 1's... way more fighting.. etc... the game is no longer the same.. even a big fan like me can find hockey very boring at times.. i can't watch hockey either unless i have cash on it..
i love baseball way way more.. and i am from montreal too,, hockey capital of the world..

I do, I sit in my lazy boy watching the Wings dominate, with a dog next to me and the Catholic channel in PIP.

This is so overstated by so many........simply not true.
First off, I LOVE HOCKEY..........but it is great on TV also.
The fact is, of the major sports it is the one that improves the GREATEST FROM TV TO LIVE..........but to say it is the best sport live is just not true in my opinion(unless perhaps one has seats next to the glass).
Attending a college football game, any outdoor baseball game, or a even an NBA game...............is just as good and in many cases better.
Attending one of the top 8 college football games this weekend is definetly better than attening any regular season hockey game................not even close.
AGAIN, THIS COMING FROM SOMEONE THAT LOVES HOCKEY!

If you are referring to atmosphere, than yes the big college games will be better than a regular season NHL for the most part.
Yes, the transition from TV to live is the greatest. Hockey is one of the few sports that it actually easier to see the play when watching it live. Football, basketball, and baseball are better to watch on TV because the sight lines are better.

Fishhead....my point is that so many are turned off by hockey simply by watching a few games on tv and not experiencing it live.
A have taken a lot of my buddies to their first ever hockey game, and it seems they have a whole new appreciation of the game after attending in person. Sure, I enjoy watching hockey on tv, but to the amateur viewer I can understand why it isn't done much justice. People don't realize how fast paced and physical the game is until they attend a game in person.

i don't think it's the best sport live, but I do love a live hockey game. I can watch football 24\7 on tv, hockey is just so different live.

fishler, you know i love you bud, but against the glass is by far the worst seat in the house.. when puck is on the other side of ice, you CANNOT see a thing..you only know it's a goal if you hear the fans scream.. i am talking about corner glass seats though.fishler, the best seats are around center ice, 10 rows up

I care about hockey. I sure as hell don't want to watch the NHL game live or on TV, but I bet on it.
I look forward very much to the Olympic hockey tournament this winter. Opposite to the NHL, I will watch it closely and not bet on it.

Nicky,
get real man. Every Leafs/Habs game last season went Over. The game is faster now. Look at your midget line in Montreal. small player = fast player.

Yes Nicky...your exactly right. You never want to sit right up against the glass, especially between the blue line and goal line. I would pick 15-20 rows from the glass as the optimal spot to watch a game.

average o/u last year.... 5 to 5.5..
average o/u in late 80's, early 90's...... 7.5 to 10.5.
pucker, dont you remember those great habs/nordiques rivalries.. quebec take 5-0 after 1 period.. mtl comes back to win 7-6.. those were the days. and it was like this alot..
you won't see this anymore, maybe 1 time a year, 2 max..
you tell me pucker.. has the game not tightened up.. the ice is too small for today's players. players are much bigger now, and goalies have gotten way better. don't you see the old highlights of how crappy goalies were back then?

I agree with you Nicky, but the game is not slow. deceiving yes, but not slow.
BTW.....I may be in Montreal in a few weeks time. Let's hook up if I do make it there.

Most of all posters in this thread are fukked up. I should move to Canada. Hockey is the greatest sport on the planet. Not even close with anything else, well maybe NCAAF.

you know your shit.. 12 yrs ago, i had season tix behind the glass between blue line and net.. it was the worst time in my life.. when puck was at other end on my same side, i could NOT see a fukkin thing.. i missed out on fights, great checks, you name it.. i could only hear the fans to know it was a big play i am missing. even if i stood, i could not see a thing..i'd have a sore neck after each game. but best was when puck was in my corner on a PP, or just good action around me, or a big body check, or a fight 3 feet from me.. aside from that, it sucked..
the best seats are between both blue lines around 10 to 18 rows up.. you get the whole view of all.. and you hear the players calling each others names, and you hear, corner T, corner.. front J, front front front.. shoot shoot shoot, got the screen...shoot.. great seats there man..

I may be slightly biased, but living in Finland, hockey is one of the few team sports that is played in solid pro level here. That is the only sport I can go watch live and see good quality world class hockey. Local soccer is not that great and I've never been a huge soccer fan.
Hockey is pretty fast paced and physical game. Can be very entertaining to watch with good teams playing.

Too many rules ruined the game and the same is happening to the NFL
NFL should be changed to NFFL(National Flag Football League)
NFL in 2009 is for sissies, would rather watch NCAAF

Me, you, Nicky & Fishhead should all meet-up in TBay this season for a game! After the game we could take our shirts off and make a 'Do Work' video.

why not all you come here to mtl instead.. i swear i would go.. why watch a lousy team like TB play in florida when you can watch a real game and see what it's like in montreal.. this is where hockey was born.. you will see a real atmosphere of hockey here, not like TB.
also, i can't go to USA.. jj is 4.5 hrs by car from here.. fishler loves to travel, you can come with fishler and keep him company on plane, PLUS mtl is not only the greatest city in the world, you have all here.. nice women, nightlife, great restaurants.. and also, we have a big massive 24/7 casino here for fishler and his slots.. no taxis, we can take my truck and i'll show you all the town..
i really am serious.. now you'll really see what it is like to watch a real nhl game live.. ....... in montreal..nothing beats it, no offence, it's way better than in TB florida where no one knows what offside even is..
