OT - Comic has sex with 'God' on TV Show
As a card -carrying soldier in the Army of the Damned, I thought this was great. Your opinions may well differ.

<table border=0 width=236><tr><td></td></tr><tr><td wrap><font face=Verdana size=1>Comic Sarah Silverman not happy that God is cuddling with her after sex on Comedy Central's 'Sarah Silverman Program'</font></td></tr></table>

Comedy Central consummated its season of "the Sarah Silverman Program" last night by featuring the title character having sex with God, and then trying to brush him off after a night of lovemaking.

I am glad to see religion no longer getting off easy on jokes in general. If anything is funny, everything can be funny. That said, I don't think the Silverman show is that clever from the couple sketches I have seen.

Sort of agree with lakerfan that the show isn't all that funny, at least I was expecting to like it more than I do. But as for the overly-sensitive having their panties get wadded up over this, eff 'em and feed 'em fish. No subject should be off-limits when it comes to comedy. I can remember a lot of people getting all high & mighty about why the Monty Python movie Life of Brian shouldn't be shown at American theatres, what was that?, 30 years ago now? I both fear and loathe all big time, organized religions, their arrogance thinking their beliefs are the only true beliefs, their hypocrisy and their embrace of money. I was about to say, "Don't get me started," but I guess it's too late

Now you're liable to me started -- I may have to move my own post to Private. And by the way, what kind of Southern Boy are you with this kind of talk, anyway?

I actually kind of like the show. I'm not a huge fan of fart jokes and general scatological humor in general, but it can still be quite clever at times (Comedy gold -- the two fat, slovenly, slightly angry gay neighbors (the "gaybors" -- excellently played by Steve Agee and Brian Posehn of Mr. Show and Just Shoot Me fame) who, as what seems their sole expression of love, bump fists and say, "I'm totally gay for you, Dude." "I'm totally gay for you, too, Dude.") Did anyone catch her performance in "The Aristocrats"?

And check out Richard Dawkins's The God Delusion. It's an excellent read.

I've been a fan of Sarah Silverman for many years but I'm losing my patience with her show. Her character is so self-involved and annoying. I didn't finish watching last night's episode but I did watch South Park. FYI...Comedy Central is bringing back David Spade next week.

No big surprise that Sarah Silverman, who has never been overly burdened with talent, would do something like that.

I can almost envision the writers' meeting where they came up with the idea:

"So what can we do that will get us attention. Doesn't matter if it's funny. Doesn't matter if the attention is positive or negative . . . "

I'm sure there are people who would be shocked by this but I am a million miles beyond that. You can't go treating god like it's sacred, I always say.

I ws glad to hear that, too. You must have good taste.

I'm waiting for them to bring back "Dog Bites Man" and Stella. I thought those shows were fantastic.

The mixed-up kind of Southern Boy, I guess. Raised to be a Texican by two parents, the family of one starting out Catholic but switching to Southern Baptist, the other parent starting out Methodist but converting to Catholicism, and spending a great deal of my life in an area of Houston that was heavy with those of the Hebrew faith, with a very dear friend early on that was Buddhist and later a good friend and neighbor who was Hindu, before marrying into a family that was evenly split between Long Island Italian Catholics, Brooklyn German Lutherans, and plain-old every day Agnostics. I just picked parts out of everyone's beliefs that I liked and made up my own religion.

I actually like the characters played by Brian Posehn and Steve Agee, have always liked Posehn since he and I are kindred spirits in the Big Ugly Club.
