Can't tell you how many times over the last few days horses that were under 2-1 on track were available for much higher at Betmaker and lost. In fact, many times the fave was less than even money on track, was offered on Betmaker at 2-1, and lost. On the opposite side, there were many occasions where a horse was say 4-1 on track, but nobody offered higher than about 5-2 on Betmaker, and they won.
It's not a blank check by any means, but when bettors, using their own money, are going against the tote board, that info may keep you off a bad favorite, or point you to an undervalued horse.
