Green Bay Packers overall record for 2005: 1-7

Green Bay total points scored: 168
Green Bay total points allowed: 159

    a +9 differential....that is unbelievable.

What does this mean from a capping stand point of view? Any thought fellows.

Subtract out that blow out win they had against New Orleans and its 116 scored vs 156 allowed - much more consistent with their record.

I am a huge Packer fan and understand that they have been scouting Matt Leinart. I suppose they scout many players and not as big of a deal as it sounds. I can't see Favre retiring and going out on such a bad note. I don't blame Favre at all for this year. He is working with receivers who don't know the system, a running back I've never heard of from Liberty (didn't know they had a football program) and a center who isn't 100%.

I would rather have them trade and draft multiple first round defensive picks if they had a top 5 draft pick. I know everyone is looking from the gambling perspective, but have to put in my two cents worth.

From a gambling perspective, it shows me that Favre is not giving up on games and I don't think they will get blown out of too many games. A lot of close losses so might not be bad ATS.

they just drafted arron rodgers, so why in the world would they go after leinart in the draft, when they need alot more than a QB on that team.

I doubt they're looking at Matt Leinart. They're probably scouting his teammate, Reggie Bush. Don't expect Ahman Green to be back and expect The Pack to use their very high (even #1 overall) draft pick on one of the big RBs.

Believe it or not, the Packers "don't know" whether or not Aaron Rodgers will ever have the ability to quarterback in the NFL. I am with the understanding that he is not catching onto the sytems at all. This is also hard for me to believe as the Cal system and Green Bay systems are not very different.

The Packer's have wasted a #1 draft pick but do not want to admit to it is my opinion.

In case you can't tell, I'm pissed off at the Packers for copying the NY Jets in their draft strategy. Buddy Bear or Senator may have a better answer to this question than I, but in the last four years have the Packers drafted anyone productive other than Nick Barnett? Ahmad Carroll has been very productive at drawing penalty flags.

Barnett has been productive, but I would argue its because he's all they have. The same reason that Sharper was productive. Move these guys to different teams and they don't stand out all that much.

I talked to Ryan Longwell this preseason and he was genuinely impressed with Rodgers. I can't see the Packers looking at Leinart. I expect Favre to come back next season and Rodgers to get another year to learn the offense and system. He's a really bright kid and I think he'll be alright. He won't be a Brett Favre or a Peyton Manning, but he could be a Carson Palmer and that's okay with me.

I would expect the Packers to use their first rounder to take a RB because I think they know Ahman Green's best years are behind him and Davenport isn't reliable enough to be a starting running back. They might have found something decent with this Gado character though.

Keep in mind that the defense hasn't been that bad this year. If you had told me this preseason that the defense would be playing like they are, I would have told you that you were crazy. The problem is all the injuries we've suffered on offense and the loss of Mike Wahle and Marco Rivera. You can lose your Tackles and be alright. You can't lose two Pro Bowl caliber Guards and expect to be the same team.

Javon Walker was an incredible draft choice. If they give him the big contract he wants and he stays healthy, he'll be one of the best WRs in the league. I don't think Ferguson was that bad. What bothers me about that pick is that they passed on Chris Chambers who would have been special in that offense with Favre. Carroll is a Terrell Buckley like bust, possibly approaching Tony Mandarich territory. I think Nick Collins will be alright and this Brady Poppinga looks like he could be special too. For whatever reason though, the Packers are horrible with their early draft picks but incredible with their late round choices. Don't ask me why.

The most interesting offseason question for the Packers is at Head Coach. Favre has said he wouldn't come back if Sherman was let go, but what if the Packers got Mariucci (who's under fire in Detroit) or someone else that Favre likes and is famaliar with. Jim Bates has done a great job as Defensive Coordinator with mediocre personnel. He's probably the most likely candidate to replace Sherman.

The lesson to be learned from that is that when capping a game, looking at the overall picture can be as dangerous as messing with your mother in law.
