The team plays hard every day despite being a just above average team. They try and win every time out. They have several and I mean a ton of great comeback wins...

Then you see the tapes of some of these wins and especially with the late inning homers no one in the stands...

They showed a homer the other day and there was no one in the bleachers to pick it up!

Living in Tampa, I can assure you that Marlins fans are 2-1 over Rays fans...........especially in terms of baseball intelligence.

I actually believe the Marlins have a very loyal backing from what I've seen on TV(even though I agree attendance is very bad).................and their tv annoucers are also 2-1 over the Rays.

The worst OVERALL fans in baseball????

I would certainly have to think it would be RAYS or MARLINS fans............maybe NATS?

        Research much?

The Marlins play 81 home games in a football stadium (capacity approx 68,000). Most MLB teams would have a great deal of difficulty filling a football stadium 81 times a year.

They also play in in a tropical climate (ie: constant threat of rain and lightning throughout the summer months). Most nights at the stadium, heavy rain clouds constantly loom and the temperature is in the high 80's, low 90's.

Also, South Florida is a notoriously bad SPORTS town in general (see Miami Heat regular season attendance etc).

But let's not get facts get in the way right G's?

The new retractable roof, climate controlled, baseball only facility which opens in 2012 will resolve a lot of the attendance issues (but obvioulsy not all).

I would have to go with LA Dodgers. They think baseball only goes 6 innings: 2-7.

Actually as you know I research all the time and always will provide stats to back it up... You mention the size of the stadium itself...which would only be a factor if it was full...which it is not..

              Now the research and facts...

What I like about you "Lock" is like your name you are always wrong...go follow machine choice...

              Here you go...

The marlins are 29th out out 30 teams in attendance...

The rest of the teams from 24-30 all last place teams or teams a few games out of last!

they average 18,109 a game while even the brewers average twice as much!

Wow G did you even read my post. You have the thickest skull on SBR.

How does the size of Landshark Stadium not matter?!

Of course it always looks empty you nit! It's made for football! 8 home games a year vs 81.

I don't why I bother with you. I gave several reasons WHY attendance is low (constant threat of rain/lightning and stifling heat) but you missed the entire point as usual.

You have the IQ of a fvcking monkey.

What does living someplace have to do with liking a team????

                    Furthermore, just stating the truth.

Rays fans, as well as Bucs fans, are some of the worst in their respective leagues.

There is MUCH to like in Tampa(other than just sports teams), including the Lightning, but certainly not the Bucs or Rays to this individual.

i was watching a tight marlins game and they showed a crowd shot and there had to be less than 1000 people there. this was when they were still in contention too. i dont know what they announce as the official attendance but nobody actually goes to the games. its embarrassing and gives the game an eerie feel, no crowd noise at all.

Exactly...the players are all fired up.. The manager argues every close call wants to win... They trade quite a few good players away every year or two and have remained good... Very sad...

They remain good because Beinfest does not get fleeced on his trades. He generally does the fleecing (with the exception of the Willingham/Olsen trade to WAS.

Again, Im not arguing that the attendance is not bad. No fvcking shit. But I gave legit reasons why and I strongly believe attendance will improve in 2012 with the retractable roof baseball only facility.

Lack of attendance does not = worst fans..
I live about 15 minutes from the stadium which is situated in between Miami and Ft. Lauderdale but there is nothing else around it.

-There is nothing to draw you there every night.
-It is hot as hell there for the games
-There are a lot of other things to do in the area
-Although they have some great talent there, management has done very little in terms of Marquee names to bring you to the games
-Check the TV/Radio ratings to see how many true fans there are out there
-The new stadium in 2012 coupled with a new approach by management SHOULD change everything. The location close to downtown will bring sponsors/corporate money to the table.
-The hispanic community is rich in baseball history but is too far to go to Miami Gardens which is approximately 90% African American which for the most part is much less likely to attend a baseball game

I agree it has been embarrassing for the last few years to see the attendance numbers, but I have only been to a handful of games each year and I am only a few minutes away. (Haven't wanted to miss out on the night life action on the weekends)

BTW, I am a die-hard Reds fan from Cincinnati so I have experienced fan-dom from different perspectives and am not being homer on this.

                                Yes.

And all this and we haven't even mentioned the major fire sale which followed the world championship in 1997 and the mini fire sale following 2005. Both of those had a big impact on fans. The sales were partially due to the fact that the current ownership receives NO cut of the concessions or parking.

Fans that have grown up with a tradition rich franchise. Our parents and grandparents grew up fans of the Cincinnati Reds from Crosley Field, to Riverfront, to GABP, where going to a game with your family was the biggest thrill. Everybody in the area could tell you what the Reds were doing.

So I am saying that the perspective is different because the culture in the two different areas couldn't be further apart. A lot of people in the Miami area are transplants from all over the world whereas most Ohians are homegrown.

Florida just simply has no baseball fans, Rays attendance was terrible even though their team made it to the WS last year, Marlins have even less attendance hell even the shitbox Nats have more attendance and they let the other team hit off a tee to save money on pitchers

Expos were the worst fans, Marlins have to be right up there now

If I travel to Miami, a Marlins game is the last place that I will probably go....

.... as for the locals..... you'd think the runaway Cubans would love a solid baseball game....

I can't believe that there aren't any fans down in Miami, but the crowd doesn't lie. a new stadium will help, and the fact that it is smack in the middle of Little Havana will help also. I grew up in Miami, then later in the redneck area called Davie, and the amount of people who actually play baseball is tremendous, I can't understand why they don't come out to the games. Yeah its hot, but it is always hot there, and the rain usually comes and goes with in a hour. Then it gets hotter. Also Land Shark stadium is right near Calder race track. Aren't they still open?

ok hands down i have been to more marlins games then anyone on this forum i will bet all my points on that..

here are the issues facing the team

                                                              1. Marlins are one of the more expensive tickets in Miami.. even though tickets can be bought for about 12 bucks for out field.. factor in 10 bucks for parking.. the stadium is in north miami on the dade/broward line where no one in that neighborhood can afford to go to the game.. So after driving through rush hour traffic.. paying to park for nothing.. and 8 dollar beers it starts to add up..

                                                              2. No public transit to the stadium.. so you have to drive through the hood to get there.. the area of the stadium has gotten a lot better.. but there is no experience there.. only tail gaiting.. its in the middle of no man's land..

                                                              3. Weather.. most rainouts in the league.. fans almost expect a rain out.. also as a fan when i lived in miami i made it a mission to make it to 1pm baseball games on sunday.. do you have any idea how burnt i used to get every sunday? So after rained out night games.. and 100 degree Sunday day games.. it's tough to fill that stadium

                                                              4. Economy .. Miami's economy is crap right now.. the city runs off international banking and tourism.. and i can tell you that the tourism isn't there.. and mom and pop's all over the city are hurting.. plus factor in that almost everyone i know borrowed against their house when they found out it it was worth twice what they paid.. only to find themselves screwed in today's real estate disaster .. companies aren't buying tickets for entertaining and fan's cant afford season tickets.. Remember the real miami economy is "off the books" and dope dealers don't go to baseball games.. and the team hasn't done enough to entice fans.. no 2 for 1's or anything like that.. about 6 years ago i got 2 for 1 season tickets on the first baseline.. that was 1400 bucks for 2 season tickets 2nd row on first base.. now thats a deal.. today nothing like this..

                                                              5. Population- Miami is one of the few cities I have ever been to that almost everyone i know parent's weren't born in Miami.. My generation grew up loving miami and miami sports.. so we the 20 somethings and 30 somethings.. support our team.. but a lot of these people aren't in a situation where they can afford to go to games on the regular.. which brings me back to point 4.. If you are a marlins fan you will notice games are 50 /50 for philly, new york, and any other big market team.. Thats because after living in these cities for 10 years.. you want to kill yourself and move to a beautiful place like MIAMI... which leads me to point number 6

                                                              6. Miami- Lets be honest what would you rather do? Go to clubs and hit on hot chicks? or waste money at a game? Go out to the beach or on your boat during the weekend , or go to the game? The city actually out sells the team.. Its not like Pittsburgh Or Cincy or other cities where there isn't much to do ..

                                                              7. the Wayne H Fire Sale of 97... ruined the team and the fan base Wayne should have never had hold of so many teams in one market.. a lot of loyal fans were lost the following year because they thought their franchise didn't care anymore.. and had an owner who was a prick.. this model didn't work in miami.. but has proven to work in cities like detroit where owners own several teams..

                                                              8. Marlins Fire Sale of 03- Fans again watched their team taken apart again.. and this time it really hurt.. we had a bunch of talent that the fans thought was theirs.. no body on the team was a real super star at the time.. and thats what the city loved about them.. they were our scrappy group of guys.. not "no names" but a lot of guys that just didn't do much before coming here.. with the exception of pudge..

                                                              9. Landshark stadium.. or Joe Robbie, Or Dolphin Stadium or whatever u want to call it .. is one of the best football stadiums in the country !! Hands down.. one of th e best tailgating stadiums in the country.. but this place is a graveyard for baseball.. 76k for football, 66k for baseball.. you can have 20k fans in there and it will look empty.. plus marlin fans put no value on tickets.. i can buy a $12 seat and sit anywhere.. so how do you convince someone to pay $100 for premium ..

                                                              Why Marlins Fans Don't Suck

                                                              1. Everyone in Miami grows up playing baseball in this city and Miami High Schools put out some of the best players in the country.. Perfect example of this is the U of M baseball team.. they are a machine over the years.. Baseball IQ is very high in this city.. and the old time cubans know THEIR SHIT!!

                                                              2. Marlins have one of the highest Radio Ratings of any team in baseball.. Old timers can't make it to the game.. but they love listening to the game like the old days.. plus marlins have a great spanish and english team of commentators

                                                              3. Marlins are moving to down town and changing the team to Miami.. I think the more centralized stadium will help the team.. along with the association with Miami.. now its OUR TEAM.. not Florida's.. but the team needs to make an experience of the day.. think wriggleyville.. the area of the new stadium is questionable at best.. if they can improve the area.. the team will do well.. more and more Miami-ians are moving downtown , which was once a ghost town after 5pm..

                                                              4. Marlin fans know their team.. even the guy that got called up from AAA.. or the Dominican prospect that is fast as hell ...etc..etc.. thats probably because the marlins produce some of the best farm talent in baseball for the last 10 years..

                                                              5. What you don't see on TV is bars and houses all over the city packed at 7pm watching games.. its cheaper to hit happy hour and watch the game with your friends then at the stadium sweating .. Marlins have a great TV following as well.. I used to go to my local watering hole almost EVERYDAY in marlins gear and the bar would be packed with guys watching the game..

It's easy to piss on the Marlins.. and honestly i love that you all do.. we are one of the best underdog stories in baseball with the 03 team.. and that would have never happened without some of the haters out there.. This team faces a lot of issues .. but mostly off the field.. i think with a rise in the economy and solid play by this club a few more years.. the fans will have to come around .. and the new first class baseball stadium will also help

here are the issues facing the team

Didn't know they were changing the name to Miami, good information

Is it changing in 2012 when the new stadium opens? Or is it changing for next year?
