most "pro gamblers" lack in these key areas
    they dont have good/healthy relationships/marriages
they dont have good/healthy relationships with their children (if they even have kids)
they dont have good/healthy social lives and interact much or well with others
    they dont own homes
    they dont have savings accts
    they dont have 401ks
    they dont have IRAs
    they dont have good health
    they dont take nice vacations
they dont retire and enjoy, the just keep "working" til they die
they dont find happiness in normal every day life, they lead destructive lives
they dont end up ever finding true happiness because they always need the rush to enjoy themselves
all in all they just dont lead healthy, nice, quality lives, and its so so so so so sad

sorry, would never aspire to be like these people, and neither should you

arguably the 2 greatest poker players in the history of the world, stu ungar and chip reese, died way too young and way too tragically, and just wait til this generation of "pro gamblers" gets to be in their mid to late 40's, if, and only if, they even get there, no thanks amigo, would never want that

                    Wrong

                    they dont have 401ks

                    Probably correct

We live in a pretty unnatural, unhealthy culture. It's hard to find things like meaning, satisfaction or peace.
My view is don't idolize anybody, try to be original. But I think it was Everlast who said: "the road less traveled sure got a lot of stones"

Everlast makes the most sense out of most recording artist..... but I think that's because he's been through more shit than most of us..... I could listen to his music and house of pain all day.

I run on my treadmill for 15 minutes every day. Sometimes I wear a headband and it makes me run faster. My wife is half Asian which is really cool but every now and then a cat turns up missing in the neighborhood.

I'm curious to know who these "pros" are that you know.

Of the professional gamblers I know, all seem to be either in healthy relationships or single. Only one has children, but he has a very good relationship with them. Their social lives seem to be fine, they certainly have a lot more freedom when it comes to social events. About half own homes. I'm not sure about investment details, but I'm pretty sure that, as a group, they're above the average. Their health seems about average for their various ages. A couple are in really good shape, a couple are struggling with some health problems. They take WAY more vacations than average. I don't know any at retirement age, so I can't speak to that. I also can't really know anyone else's true happiness level, but I'd be really surprised if they weren't happier than the average American.

I can only assume that you're basing your assumptions on some infamous gamblers. The big-time train-wrecks get all of the press.

I have a wonderful marriage to a great woman who has put up with me now since we first met as teens in 1971.

We don't have any kids, but we've enjoyed the 20+ nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces we've been blessed with, including two that are our god-children.

We have lots of great friends, but I'm not sure that our small-town life would qualify as all that 'social' to the big city folks.

We own a home, but looking now to either buy the lot next to us and expand or just save up for a new place out in an even smaller town when we retire.

We have a savings account, Queen Bee is in charge of that.

I manage our 401ks and other investments.

We're in pretty good health considering we're in our mid-50s, at least we're adjusting to the changes so that we can hopefully maintain good health.

We don't take enough vacation time away, will have to talk to Dozer about that.

We are looking forward to retirement.

Wife and I find incredible happiness in the most simple things in life from reading and taking walks to listening to music while sitting on our front deck watching the flowers grow with a cold 'n crispy adult beverage in our hands.

                                          In conclusion, me no pro.

I spend 3-6 months traveling every year. I'm in great health. I have savings, investment, ira, and various other bank accounts. I own real estate.

Most gamblers (day to day) are loaners, heavy drinkers and actually hard workers.
