football pet peeve "spotting the ball"
I fukkin hate hearing the announcers say:

"depending on the spot of the ball"
    or
    "they got a good spot"
    or
    'they got a bad spot"

With all the technology available they should be able to get the "correct spot" nothing less.

Buzzy, I don't buy it, they could easily have a camera dedicated to following the ball, or do like Fox tv did with the pucks and put the blue light on it so you can see the fukking thing.

I say there should be a small sensor inside the footballs, then use radar or some GPS to tell where the ball is. But that would be too much hassle

Had a talk with someone at the game today about how with all the technology available there ought to be a better way to mark first downs than with the chain gang. It's kind of sad to see them trot on to the field and measure when you know when the set the chains they were just eyeballing where the ball was.

That's the biggest load of BS that football has going on today. They call in the boys with the chain, then the offical steals the chain from the dude and checks to see if the ball is past it. Meanwhile the spot to begin with was a arbitrary guess.

They could easily place an RFI tag on either side of the ball, that could then be used to determine where the ball went out of bounds or if it crossed the goal line. They would still have problems using it for regular plays that don't involve the ball leaving the field of play, but allot of questionable ball spots would be elliminated. Like last week when Wes Welker caught a pass and was brought down a full yard and a half before the first down marker late in the 4th quarter, an offical first spoted the ball correctly, but by the time it got to the middle of the field, it was magically a first down. Of course the Bumbalo Bills didn't challenge, and play continued. It probably didn't have an effect on the outcome, but it was a blatant miss-spoting of the ball. This could also be made more accurate with a RFI tag. While I'm at it, how about the field goal kicks that are higher than the goal post? Right now you have a 85 year old guy standing under the goal post looking up to determine what is going on in all kinds of foul conditions. He couldn't tell you what color the goal post are let alone where the ball was.

RFID tags would work. They are the size of a grain of rice.
