Richkas I don't think this behavior is limited to any single race. Again, it's just a pack mentality. That kid was like a lamb to lions. Those could have all been a bunch of whites picking on the nerdiest, weakest looking white kid to get on the bus. I can remember similar instances growing up where we picked on kids in similar fashion. I remember seeing kids get beat up that wanted nothing to do with fighting anybody. They were just trying to get through another miserable day in their miserable life without suffering more than verbal assault and ridicule about every 10 minutes. Then every once in a while some jerk would pummel them for no other reason than they offered no resistance.

If that had been a black kid getting beaten by white kids it would be a national story. I have no doubt about that. But the fact is it is human nature to notice differences. This is a base human commonality. We all see differences and we are all reflexively leery of them. That doesn't in and of itself make us racist. Racism entails taking that acknowledgment several steps further.

In this case, a white kid is singled out because of his differences. He is rejected by the pack - a pack of black youths - because he is different and weak in number and stature. The aggressive behavior is encouraged through a pack mentality that we haven't found a way to shake after 10,000 years of civilization. It's sad but it's nature.

I guess if one ignored the fact that it appears that kid was one of few white children on the bus, you could make the case that they decided to randomly assault him and push him out of his seat not because of his skin color, but because he looked 'timid'. Personally, I think it was both. If he was some big jock, perhaps he doesn't get beaten, but if he was the same timid kid only happened to be African-American, would he get beaten for no reason?

Lou, I'm not saying it's random at all. Of course race played a role in singling this child out of the pack. My point is that this behavior is prevalent in all races of man. The comments from the unabashed racists on this board are predictable, but incorrect. "Animals that's all" is actually very accurate, but not by the poster's intention. We are all animals, that's all. When you are willing to attribute negative connotations to only one race based on behavior that we are all capable of regardless of color, then you take simple acknowledgment of differences to a level that reaches true "racism".

There used to be a Dominos pizza in the poor part of the town I'm from (since closed) they had the last two night managers get shot to death, the first time the guy killed two ppl in a robbery and got away with like 120 bucks so they hired a night manager to replace the one that got killed and he used to give away the leftover food at closing to the poor blacks whod come bumming well anyway this black dude asked him if he had any leftover buffalo wings and he said no they didnt have any leftovers and the guy left anyway he came back like 5 mins later and tapped on the window and the night manager said Im sorry man we didnt have any leftovers tonight and the guy shot him in the head, no robbery at all just killed him bc he didnt have leftover buffalo wings
