I give Rap one thing (only one) it introduced vinyl (LPs) to the younger generation.

I'm listening to Peter "Frampton Comes Alive!" on my Pioneer PL-560 turntable as I type.

Keep in mind, I'm in my mid 50s

I can't say I do Sam. I still say the 8-track was the best sound system ever

8-track had to be the worse in delivering music to the consumer ever. I had one in my '66 chevy tho ... LOL

I absolutely hated the fact that it changed tracks right in the middle of the song Sam.

I finally got rid of all my vinyl (3 big boxes) last year. I did the best I could to find good homes for them. I gave first shot to a couple of aficionados I know. They cherry-picked the best stuff. Then I sold the rest to a guy who runs a used record store down the street. The ones even he wasn't willing to pay for - (some of them were in very rough shape) - I just told him to keep. He said he'd give them to Goodwill.

There were a lot of memories attached to them but I make a conscious attempt not to be sentimental about inanimate things. They just didn't fit in with my anti-clutter philosophy. I got rid of the old turntable too.

I don't, but I enjoy listening when I get a chance. In the college town I am in lot of people listen on vinyl and lot of the local music stores support it.

laker, it's a different 'sound', be it better or worse than CD is a great debate. CD's can be tin-ny sounding.

Ah a trip down memory lane
still have the whole zep collection...cream collection, some guy named clapton played with them and one copy of dark side of the moon.Gave away the rest years ago.Covers are a little scratched up from separating the stems and seeds, but I figure that adds value. If you're listening to Frampton, you gotta have some Humble Pie..those boys could rock! Thanks for the jolt in memory Sam

rip em to Flac, they will sound exactly the same as your beat up record.

I have a record player and a bunch of vinyl records but I'm too lazy to listen to them. It's quicker to play CD's or listen to music online.

Electronica has kept vinyl around. It might be suprising but vinyl record production is going up! (or at least it was last time i checked.) The price that nice techiques turntables can get is amazing.

I actually like rap/hip hop music. I was thinking about getting a record player and some good beats on vinyl and learning to mix/scratch a little bit. I need a new hobbie since I've all but given up internet gambling.

I think most DJs are moving towards cds anyway, right?

ya just cant do many tricks with cds. I guess it depends on what kind of dj you are, but the ones who are into the art aspect of djing, turntables are a must.

i think your represent the prevailing view (a purist) but now fangled devices let you synthetically "spin" cds also. At some point the technology will be good enough that most all DJs will probably spin CDs.
