Not ONE poster at SBR is not smart enough........
....to not rank HOUSTON ahead of OLKA STATE.

If you any of you were asked to rank the top 20, no way in the world any of you would rank OKLAHOMA STATE ahead of HOUSTON after HOUSTON just defeated them in Stillwater by 10 points. Meanwhile.............

    AP POLL

    16. OKLAHOMA ST
    21. HOUSTON

    COACHES POLL

    17. OKLAHOMA ST
    27. HOUSTON

They may not finish the season ranked ahead of OKLAHOMA ST, but they certainly deserve to be at this time!!

From what I've witnessed.....GEORGIA and OKLAHOMA STATE do not quite deserve a top 20 ranking at this time.........currently have HOUSTON ranked 20th on my ballot poll that I submit to various newspapers throughout the country.

By the way, at this time, I believe Nebraska and Penn State are the most overrated teams in the current top 20............more so with Penn State.

I currently have Penn State ranked 13th(which to be honest, may be to high at this time)...........

Then why did Okla play for the National Title when Texas killed them last year??

Back to Houston, as I said Okla St got caught looking past Houston as Ohio St almost did with Navy. It happens in these non conf warm up games. Houston is about the last team I would want as a warm up game. But, the public will jump on Houston just to find out they are a very average team.

They have one helluva an offense, that's for sure.

Looking at their schedule right now, they would be favored in ALL but ONE game if one were to make a line right now...........

                    NOVEMBER 7th @ TULSA

They have one of the weakest schedules remaining for any team currently in the top 25.

They are off this week and host Texas Tech on Sept 26th........

Having said all of this, they could still very easily lose 3+ games before seasons end, so having said that, I agree with you SBRJOHN.

I hate going by "weakest" and "toughest" division.

Play the game, teams fold, teams don't come ready, hense OK State.

That's one reason why preseason polls end up hurting good teams. When you come in the preseason ranked in the top 10, i.e. Clemson 2008 you have much less work to do to remain in the top 25. Meanwhile teams such as Utah which are already disadvantaged must climb their way up the polls as they either aren't ranked or are ranked low in the polls. It's a shame but we all love polls in general to get that quick glance. It would be a nice change if the official polls were not released until say week 5 or 6 of the season to give the teams who were not ranked early on a chance to jump to the appropriate ranking.

Now as far as OSU and Houston. You can always argue a team should be ranked higher because they beat a higher ranked team, but we know that's not the case. If you played that game out 100 times OSU would win a majority. That's why they play the game on the field. Any given day it's up for grabs. It was a classic let down game for OSU after playing a huge game in front of a national audience and OSU reacted as such.

Fish I see were you are trying to come from, but if #1 loses to say #110, does that mean #110 is now ranked ahead of #1? We know that's not going to happen. It just happened that #110 beat #1 on that given day. It's a long season, but for OSU it's best to start losing early in the year with a higher ranking, then lose late in the year and try and recover.

                          Early polls are the problem.

Wacked.......no, a team that is ranked 110th should not move past a team in top top ten if they defeat them, but when a team is still unbeaten on the year and they beat an opponent on their home turf by double digits, THEY SHOULD NOT BE RANKED BELOW THEM.

For example, if Tulsa played Florida next week and beat them by 10+ points in Gainsville, they should NOT BE RANKED BELOW FLORIDA.

The problem is that the polls work on the merit and ladder concept. Previous year's results establish a hierarchy and then you cannot be removed from that hierarchy barring an egregious performance or loss.

Polls should be fluid based on performance to date. If this was the case, Houston would be ahead of Oklahoma State. USC would also be ranked ahead of Florida and Texas based on body of work up to this point. Pollsters are just lazy stupid sheep though so that would never happen.
