Ok. We risking 500? If Murray wins a major first I give you 1,000 and if Del Potro wins first you give me 500? That sound good?

#74Injuries really came at the worst possible time for Del Potro. He'd just won his first major beating Nadal and Federer back to back, and then beat Federer again in the Year End Championships in London.
A full year out of the game, plus another year to get himself up to somewhere close to resembling his real ranking and he's lost the mental toughness he started to build up towards the latter end of 2009 against the top players. Especially Federer, who has owned Del Potro this year 5-0.
One thing to say about Delpo this year is that he has been extremely consistent. Out of 9 losses, 5 have been to Federer, and then one apiece to Ferrer, Tsonga and Berdych (the latter two he has also beaten this year). The other loss was to Baghdatis, who can be a danger to the very best on his day. Delpo has just a big a game as Tsonga and Berdych, and he certainly has a more consistent ground game than those two, who can be very erratic at times.
If injury had not stuck in 2010, who knows how he would have built on his breakthrough at the US Open.
Look out for him to be ranked no lower than 6th (I expect 5th or even 4th) at the end of this year barring further injury. After Wimbledon (where he reached R4 last year), he defends hardly any points for the rest of the year. He typically does really well in the US summer hardcourt swing, so he could pick up a shed load of points there. He really needs to avoid QF meetings with Federer (or figure out how to beat Fed!), as he hasn't played any of the other members of the top 4 in an eternity, so he has had no chance to match up his game against them.Comment -

#78that was about his ceiling and he still couldn't take a set of Djokovic. By the way, he's 8th in the world and hasn't been in the top 5 since May 2010. His peak was at #4 for 3 weeks.[quote=jjgold;5683305]I win again like usual

#81Yeah I should cash that at some point. I was convinced Murray would win a major and the forum in general loved to say how he'd never win one.[quote=jjgold;5683305]I win again like usual

#83This bet was even worse than I remember!!!!! I thought it was even odds but I guess not. Right after we make the bet Murray makes it to the finals at Wimbledon, wins gold at the Olympics, and wins the U.S. Open. Guy stepped it up like no other. At least this horrible bet is over tho. Maybe I can make it all back at the SBR casino!!!Comment -

#95He's not getting closer.
Update:
His highest ranking was still 4th, and that was only briefly in 2010.
He'll never be #1.[quote=jjgold;5683305]I win again like usual

Funny how there are no youngsters making headlines in tennis anymore.
