Well now I have. Been checking it out for the first time this weekend. Between that and finally getting a cell phone a few months back, I feel like quite the happening 21st century dude.



The highlight was when I flopped a straight flush to the queen. The lowlight was losing my entire deposit.

No one mistook me for Phil Ivey.

Here's my impression:

I have played poker for years and am actually a pretty decent player. I win more than I lose (although I don't play against a particularly high level of competition).

The competition on-line didn't seem particularly dazzling and I felt like I was winning more than I was losing - but my balance kept slowly eroding.

Maybe I'm kidding myself that I was playing winning cards but the point is, the rake seems deadly. It's subtle but I guess it adds up so that almost everyone loses long-term - like the vig in sports betting. (I'm sure regular players are now saying, "DUH!!")

That aside, I don't know how people get so caught up in it. I only played maybe 6 hours altogether and that was too much time sitting like a vegetable in front of a computer.

In the old days(not too long ago HAHA) if you are a decent player & bonus hunt it's not hard to make a profit..

Takes forever to clear the bonuses though.. For some reason I did a lot better when I played SNGs..

if its too slow for you, play 2 tables at once. (or 4, or 8 , or 12)

The one point I would make to people who say they have only played the "Fun Money" games: don't think your results would automatically translate to money games. I don't say that just because of the rake either.

I played some Fun-Money games to get used to the software and the play was at a much lower level than the money games. Some people try to play properly but a lot of people are absurdly aggressive because they have nothing real to lose. You can trap them all over the place.

Some people are going to see every flop no matter what. If you have any concept of basic strategy and patience, you can't help but win.

Those overly aggressive players are not totally absent from the real money games but if you see them, you better sit down with them fast because they won't last long.

I've played for the last three years, it was absurdedly profitable for the first couple of years, but now I find it difficult to win on a constant basis and have resorted mostly to bonus hunting.
I'm not sure that the players have improved that much recently, I have a sneaking suspisicion that the sites run a program that gives you worse cards if you have cashed out profits on a regular basis. (and are playing at that site only when bonuses are offered)
That said, playing four tables you can still clear from $10-20 per hour in bonuses providing you can play break even poker.

Back before October, I could average $40 in hour in bonuses alone. Now, I can only get about $20. Things are going downhill fast.

There is still plenty of money to be made. I recommend getting kickbacks at any site you play at though, there is a way to get kickback at nearly every room.

Count me amongst those who haven't played it. Maybe slots would be fun on-line, but poker, craps, etc, is only fun to me when it's live and in person.

WSEX has no rake poker.

WSEX needs more players. I can't believe how few players are actually there compared to pacific and party both of which I can't play at anymore.

The rake is nice but the better players really outnumber the less skilled at WSEX IMO.

Interestingly as much as I like to play live poker I've never won in a B&M whereas online I've never had to redeposit.

I was just adding my own commentary on WSEX. I love the rake free idea but I find myself rarely finding a table that is suitable (ie. where I feel I have an advantage over a nice % of the table) due to the fact that most of the players are either better or play a style I don't play well against. In addition there are few full ring games going most of the tables are 6 handed.

1500 people is a big # for them and 800 people of that are in the free-roll for $50

WSEX aint advertising correctly BUT many people I know complain about their software.

well it's true I get booted out of their site occasionally but I couldn't say for sure how much more I got booted out of WSEX than say Pacific when I played there.
