Two is all you need unless you have a big wall and have them professionally mounted (plasmas)
I would day the best set up is one big one in the middle and then 2 above it and 2 below it

I have 3, best decision I ever made a couple years ago is to roll with 3 tv's. All 3 are on pretty much whenever I'm at home. Trust me its frickin' great.

I have 1 55" flat screen plasma deal, and 1 regular 35" Tv. On big weekends, I take the 42" plasma from the living room down to the mancave for more coverage, but I really don't have a good place for it, so it won't be a permanet thing.

1 television, no cable, and living in canada so no sports, only two hockey games on saturday nights during nhl season.
dial up internet, so can't watch anything, and espn scoreboard page takes 10 minutes to load up on each 60 sec refresh.
can check scores on cell phone and it has cost me already $50 this month.
