Tigers closing in on wild card spot

Don't look now but the Detroit Tigers are 78-73 and only 1.5 games back of the final wild card spot in the AL. They have a tough series at KC which they took Game 1 last night then head to Baltimore for a 3 game set this weekend.

If they can hold position through that, they close with the Rays and lowly White Sox at home.

Twins (79-71) go @ Cleveland, @ Boston, vs Miami, vs Baltimore

Mariners (77-73) go vs Yankees, @ Texas, @ Houston, vs Oakland


Is +475 enough value to take a shot at Detroit making the playoffs? Twins are -375 and Mariners are +600.

It has been a fun ride but as a life long Tigers fan this might be the worst case scenario for the franchise. They have done just enough where it’s hard to cut bait on underperforming guys and a below .500 manager and you also now have shittier picks for the new GM. You sort of end up eternally 62-100, 70-92, 81-81 when this stuff happens and are always clawing out of a hole instead of really getting the guns you need to actually win divisions/pennants.

Offseason will be even more interesting.

As most of you know I'm the biggest KC Royals fan on these here boards, don't think I haven't been paying attention!

Ever since Vinny Pas went down KC went into a tailspin.
KC's lineup before Pas went down (2-3-4) was Witt Jr, Pas, and Sal Perez.
That 2-3-4 combination had the highest RBI pct. in the majors (and that included Soto, Judge, and whoever was in the cleanup position in the NYY batting order). Look it up if you don't believe me.

Going into tonight's action Detroit had a 31% (+220 implied odds) chance of snagging the final AL WC spot.

That Cleveland walk-off tonight probably buried the Twins, that has to be demoralizing.

Don't look now but Baltimore (2-8 in their last ten games) are on MLB baseball's biggest cooler.
